Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman
I haven't seen this film in years. It was even better this time. Ms. Tyson's performance is spectacular. As I recall, this film was one of, if not THE, pioneer of realistic aging makeup/prosthetics techniques. And for a film produced in the 70's, the makeup has stood the test of time. I found the aging process done on Ms. Tyson's character equal too or better than that of the last scene of K19, in which the former submarine crew members meet many years later for a memorial service.
That aside, the film is obviously an important historical piece, tracing her life from the oppression of slavery through the freedoms and rights African/American citizens fought for through the years.
I highly recommend this film to anyone interested in the civil rights movement or in theater craft - actually, it's a good reminder to anyone, of any race, sex, religion or political belief that we, as human beings, SHOULD be treated as equals.
