Album Notes Blinker The Star: Jordon Zadorzny (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards, synthesizer); Pete Frolander (bass); Kellii Scott (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Ken Andrews (guitar, synthesizer, background vocals); Brad Laner (guitar, bass); John Parish (slide guitar); Charlie Bisharat, Joel Derouin (violin); David Campbell (viola); Larry Corbet (cello); Greg Wells (piano); Justin Meldal-Johnson, Lee Sklar (bass); Vinnie Colaiuta (drums, tabla). Recorded at Rumbo Recorders, Canoga Park, California. Asian edition. With an interesting mix of rock and power pop, Blinker the Star has been able to forge a name for itself within the music community since the band's 1995 self-titled debut. AUGUST EVERYWHERE is the band's third album and its first for Dreamworks Records. The material feels the influence of some classic pop songwriters--"Pretty Pictures" sounds like classic ELO while "On This Earth" sounds like it could pass as a lost Beatles track. Some of the other tracks that shine are "September Already," "The Star Behind the Star," and "Right Kind of Girl," which has a songwriting texture not unlike the work of Elliot Smith.

8 out of 10 - ...the last native tongue of a museum tribe: guitar-scored elaborations on a lost theme, lovely as they are irrelevant...utterly pleasurable because the stakes are so low you can't get under them....It's just music. Exactly. Copacetic. Poignant. Spin (11/01/1999)
3 stars out of 5 - ...surround-sound arena rock, a collection of smart arrangements brimming with evocative lines and hard-to-shake choruses... Rolling Stone (09/30/1999)
