Audiovox DV1680 6.8 in. Portable DVD Player

This was my first DVD purchase anywhere, and I thought I would try a portable unit first. Well, when I got it I was excited and thought now I can watch some movies and a few Business DVD's I had. It looked good and was in good condition, and the first thing I tried to play was a Real-Estate Seminar I owned of just someone giving a lecture. It took a while to load first, then it did start playing, but was a little choppy, pausing momentarily at certain points, which concerned me, but did not seem to be too much of a big deal, since it was very short and did noy bother me, nor effect the lecture, but still was kind of anoying. The next day, I rented a few movies and when I tried to play the first it came back with an error message of "Invalid File" after trying to load it for a few minutes, and just did nothing - it did the same with a second movie! On the third one it did load and start playing, and after a few minutes, it kept pausing and stalling after every couple of minutes, which is totally unacceptable for anyone and one can't watch any movie this way, and then after about 15 minutes into it, it just totally paused/stopped dead and that was the end of that. I could not retart it or do anything. Anyway, I wasted my money on this one. Maybe it's an older portable unit and doesn't play many of the newer DVD-formats, in either case it's either defective or never was good. If anyone has a chance to buy one like it, my recomdation is don't waste your money, at any low-price. A friend did some searches for me recently and found some other independent review-ratings that also mentioned some of the same or similar problems with this unit that I just described, even early on when it was first sold at stores and reports of many returns- I guess I should have done that first,,,duhhhh, hahaha.
So there you have it - In summary, just a bad unit - get a newer one, which I now will have to do also.

I purchased this portable DVD player for an a young man whom was about to turn 11 yrs of age. His Mom has been diagnosed with cancer and his Dad has been working 2 jobs to try to just get bills paid and food bought. I knew before her diagnoses they had planned to buy him one for his birthday and when it came that time they didnt have the funds. So I found this one and it was just like brand new when it arrived. Was very pleased to give to his parents to give to him from not ME but to be from THEM! Thanks E-Bay!
