Description: Rand's 1200-page novel is a hymn of praise to the concept of rugged individualism, personified in John Galt. This polemic for Rand's philosophy of "rational self-interest" has been a steady seller since it was published in 1957.

  Atlas Shrugged

I have read Atlas shrugged and found it to be a terribly interesting book. It asks the question, "What would happen if the movers and shakers of the world just stopped" It is the story of a man who said that he would "stop the motor of the world" and did just that. It is a murder mystery, where the victim is not physically killed but destroyed in spirit, then rebirthed. If you enjoy a fast paced and thoughtfull read then this book is for you! Thought provoking and timeless, Atlas Shrugged is sure to impress and entertain!

  Excelent book, bad format

Fitting this long novel in such a small format, makes the size of the typography too small to read, even for people with 20/20 vision.

  Atlas Shrugged
Review created: 07/04/09

The book is long winded and slow moving. It poses a very interesting hypothetical question that is very appropriate for this time in our country. Also keeping track of the characters is a challenge which is why I alos purchased the Cliff's Notes to go along with this book. It is in general focused on the economics of a country that is becoming more and more Socialistic - trying to create a country where everyone has an equal chance to earn money, whether they are proficient at the job or not. It is in the long-run a very good book, if you can get through it - It is also very long. I hope this review is helpful.

  "Who is John Galt?"
Review created: 06/15/09

This is a must read book by every AMERICAN!
Could not put it down, hated for the story to end.

If you want to see what America will end up like if we continue on this path of socialism, this book explains it!

This might be the best novel I've ever read......

......just ahead of War and Peace.
It is Big, in scope....and Big, on principle. Hank Rearden is a man amongst sheep. In the beginning, the question `Who is John Galt?' was the hook that pulled me into the story. It was the mystery on the minds of many people, and I, myself, wanted to know.....
It has been a few years since I've read Atlas Shrugged. I'm buying my own copy, so that I can go back read it again. To me, it is - in deed - a classic. It is a novel that can make one ... think. Atlas Shrugged was the shortest 1200 pages that I've ever read.

  Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Review created: 04/04/09

The definitive work of Ayn Rand's philosophy of objectivism. Thoroughly engrossing while exacting a strict mental challenge to grasp the disparate parts of her views of the world and the incredible human challenges that may be both accepted and conquered. Not a reading for the faint of heart or one unwilling to devote considerable energy to the task.
After digesting The Fountainhead last year, I decided to tackle Atlas Shrugged. It was worth every minute. She is surely one of the greatest minds in history, ranking with Einstein and Da Vinci. I look forward to reading and studying her thoughts for the rest of my years.

A hot read now that Atlas is truly shugging

Ayn Rand's 1957 masterpiece Atlas Shrugged on the men of the mind going on strike is currently a hot sales item due to the fact that Atlas is actually shrigging.

Today the current productive men, the men of the mind who carry our world on their shoulders, react on the raise of socialism and fascism in our society by cutting back, so going on strike.

That act of striking is called after the hero of this book 'Going John Galt'.
