Atari Anthology (PlayStation 2, 2004)

I remember playing the "wookie" version of the ATARI 2600 back in Chicago when I was a wee lad. It was our second console game system (Radio Shack's PONG being our first) and as we bought games it became a family activity.
This recently released collection of classic arcade and console version ATARI games provides a sampling for generation X, Y, or Z while providing the needed nostalgia for us old timers.
Of note however is the absence of two of my favorites (Pitfall and Space Invaders). I cannot fault the game for this since it does not claim to be ALL of the games ATARI made, just 85!
This release also provides two unique features that the older versions cannot. The documentary of the gaming industry, cover art, manuals, and interviews make for an interesting learning experience about the history of ATARI and arcade games. The second feature is unlocks, time challenge, trippy mode, double speed, time warp, and hot seat (are you a true master?) add to the games re-play value and enrich the overall experience.
While this Anthology should not be the only one in your collection it is a good place to start. Graphics and sounds will take you back; the simplified games will challenge your hand-eye coordination and patience.

This game is a copmpiliation of all the old arati games and more. If you loved the old atari well this game is the NEW ATARI!!!!!!!

I'm sorry I've never gotten this item that I paid for it. The seller has never answer my numerous emails and disputes. So I paid for it for nothing. It was supposed to be for a Christmas gift.

I bought this game because it has different games to choose from. I just love thew game, Theirs nothing that I don't like about it.

old games for my wife. i was looking some of the older games. it has a lot of the older games on the one disk.

Very boring and only 1 player games. Game is not very good at all! We bought 15 playsation 2 games for christmas and this is the worst out of the 15.

It is a great game! It is just easier playing these games on the playstation 2 rather than getting out the old atari.

This game is a horrible waste of $. Don't buy it. Putting this in your PS2 is like running a 1965 video game - terrible graphics, bad sound, all around not entertaining.

I remember playing Atari as a kid, and this is a good implementation. I just wish there were better controllers, like a trackball for Asteroids, Missile Command, Centipede and Millipede and a paddle for Pong. Trying to control with the analog stick is tricky sometimes. Everything else is true to life. I got a good laugh out of the Atari 2600 cartridge games too, especially since they are still as much fun as they were in the 1980s. Introducing my daughter to the games I grew up on was special, so this was a good purchase for me.

You get over 85 atari games which include classics and old school. Great to play with others in parties and by yourself. Easy for kids to get into as well as people who don't really play the new complex games out there nowadays. You control using the D-pad or the right analog stick and one button. Pretty easy to figure out!

What i liked about it was that the games that are on their were on the old atari's from the 80's. And i loved playing missile command, as well as asteroids. It;s a must for any system.
