Publisher's Note "Aspen Potpourri" is a cookbook that includes 260 pages of black & white photographs of Aspen people & their recipes. There are also many scenes of Aspen, including Victorian houses & architectural details. Thirty years in the making...the photographs were taken in the 1960s, 1970s, & 1980s by Mary Eshbaugh Hayes, longtime reporter, photographer & editor of The Aspen Times weekly newspaper in the famous ski town of Aspen, Colorado. "Aspen Potpourri" includes a potpourri of Aspen people...some oldtimers, some newcomers, some jet setters, some artists, some writers, some celebrities, some musicians, some truck drivers & cat-skinners. The people range from children to grandparents. There are two rather different sections in this book...a section of "Idea Recipes" that explain some of the things Aspenites do...like gathering & planting wildflower seeds, lessons in how to refinish furniture, how to be a water witcher, how to make a quilt...& a section on "Local Wild Edibles" which gives recipes for wild berries & mushrooms. Potpourri is a mixture...& the book is a mixture of Aspen...its people, its places & its food.
