Artist Trading Card Workshop by Bernie Berlin (2006, Paperback)

An Atc is described as a tiny original work of art. They are collectors cards that must never be sold- only exchanged and they must be made in the size of 2.5"x3.5" only. Atc's are usually traded at ATC conventions and are collectables, like the older sports player trading cards.
The Atc card was first introduced in Zürich, Switzerland in 1996. On the back of each Atc the artist writes their name, contact information, title of the ATC and number. ATCs are made in limited numbers and are mostly one of a kind. Sets of identical ATCs are called editions. Sets of Atc's that are based on one theme but each one is different are called series.
Workshop is a super book to not only learn about Atc's, but to learn how to create art. Each chapter is presented with easy pictorial instructions. One thing I liked about this book is that all the artist tools are items any one could buy at any art store. Some books require and feature the artists line of materials but not this one. The first chapter opens with using baby wipes! Every type of art material from magazines, foam, gesso and fibers plus much much more is given in short easy to understand chapters. Each chapter has color photo examples of each stage of the art process through several completed examples of the finished artwork.
Anyone interested in the creation and making of art can benefit from this book. One of the chapters features using metal repair tape plus a silicone mold and utee. Another offers making transfers using your ink jet printer and gel medium. Using string- yes string in another. This book is full of great ideas for not only the medium of artist trading cards but for other art too. In addition there are chapters on digital art, children's art, book making and various storage ideas for your collected Atcs.

If you're someone who would like to learn what ATC's are, or someone who already knows but wants to learn some new techniques or just learn how to make them period....THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!!! It's choke full of GREAT techniques to try, with step by step instructions, and great photos....and it even has a list of places for you to find out how to swap your ATC's and where you can swap your ATC's!! This book even gives you a history!!

Now my favorite part of this book....it's all of the WONDERFUL examples of the ATC's that are pictured so well in this book so you can see the details!!! What I like to call...."AMAZING EYE CANDY!!!!"

If you don't already own this book....buy it!!!!

I'm just getting started doing ATC and this book really gave me some great ideas and got the creative juices flowing. I'd highly recommend it!

I thought I'd learn something about ATCs with this book. What a disappointment. Only thing I learned was I didn't like this type of ATC and unfortunately most ATCs are like this. I'm most interested in free hand drawing and painting not glued things to a surface. I immediately put it up for sale on amazon.com.

I have no opinion; I bought it for my wife and she loves it so guess I like it. If she is happy, I am ecstatic!(LOL)

This is a fantastic book for anyone interested in collage, painting techniques or just general knowledge. I own a number of art books but what I like most about this book is the precise information and instructions. In my opinion this book is good for both the novice and professional artist.

A woman I was working with had a copy Artist Trading Card Workshop by Bernadette Berlin, and after looking through it, I had to get a copy for myself. The book is full of examples and ideas. It highlights different creative processes and techniques to try and directions are clearly worded and easy to follow.

Love this book! If you have any interest in the growing trend of making and trading artist trading cards, THIS is the book to have!! A great bargain, by the way.

I decided to buy it because I am looking for ideas for artist trading cards. I like some of the techniques shown. However I dont care for most of the styles of art chosen. I wouldnt be making any of the examples shown in the book atleast not in the same style.
