  Best bread book around

Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day is THE BEST bread book around. It takes five minutes to make the dough, less than 5 minutes to shape the loaf, and comes out exactly as described. I come from a family of bakery owners and never got the flavor and texture I get from this bread. The crusty, chewy and texture of the bread is just wonderful. Even the novice baker will have wonderful results the first time. I highly recommend this book for anyone that wants to make the best bread ever. I have now purchased 5 of thies books to give away and every one that I have given the book to is using the recipes!

Don't Buy Bread- Buy this Book!!
Review created: 02/22/09

I read an article in a magazine about this book, with some recipe excerpts included. I was intrigued;as a long time bread baker, I wanted an easier, more fool proof method...

Boy, I underestimated what this book could deliver!

First, as is my frugal wont, I got the book from the library... Wow! I tried the simple method, mixing up the dough, and saving it in the fridge after making my first loaf- this was the BEST!

Crunchy, perfect crust; soft, creamy "crumb" inside- after years of baking, I had NEVER achieved anything like this! And really, so very, very easy!

I ordered the book on ebay, (great price, fast delivery), because the book has so much to offer, I needed it ALL- the recipes for Chocolate Bread, (Fantastic!), Pretzels and Bagels, (yet to be tried, but I know they'll be great), and PIZZA, of which I can't get enough! Faster and easier than ordering out, and SO much better! (And it uses a portion of the SAME DOUGH that you (after you get this book!) will perpetually have waiting in your refrigerator)!

It also has many other recipes; but, honestly, the book is worth it many times over just for bread and pizza. The rest is just extra...

But this book. Now. Then, take $5, and mail it to me. I deserve much more, but I'm not greedy- I figure: $5, for only 5 minutes per day..

Oh, that "5 minutes per day" is only if you make a loaf EVERY DAY- for me, it's "5 minutes per WEEK"! It saves that much time!

Jay

SUPERB, EASY FOR ANYONE & YUMMY

I was looking for ways to enhance my kitchen skills & save money. Mother Earth recommended this book and they are right in doing so. With clear, easy to follow (even for a novice breadmaker) directions for a basic mix that can be custom tailored to suit any need, mood or occasion, THIS BOOK IS SUPERB. Ingredients are simple and readily available. Many good recipes for diabetics who cannot partake of store bought breads can be found here. There is also a great selections of healthy breads that pass the American kid taste test. They will never know you are feeding them healthy food.

Well thought out instructions & descriptions make you feel like you have an experienced bread maker right there with you every step of the way. The Tips section is a good read & explains many things that other books take for granted you already know.

THIS BOOK IS ACTUALLY A GOOD READ! IT IS PAINLESS & ENJOYABLE UNLIKE MANY GOOD COOKBOOKS.

With good bread fast approaching the $4.00 mark, this is a money & time saving way to please every taste in your circle at a low cost.

I especially like the Vermont Cheddar Bread, the Peasant Breads, Bagels, Soft Pretzels, and the many superb variations of Rye Breads that anyone can make, BUT, there is so much more left to try.

Buy the book, practice a bit & get ready for compliments & savings with very little effort or time!

Makes homemade bread possible for everyday meals

This is a very good book with easy to follow recipes. I tend to be very heavyhanded in the kneading department and seem to only manage hockey pucks when I make bread without the bread machine. I can actually make a good loaf of bread following the directions in the book without the use of a bread machine. I recommend it for anyone who can't make a decent loaf of bread on their own.

I originally heard about this book in Mother Earth News and was fascinated by the concept. I immediately requested it from my library and gave the basic recipe a try. I couldn't believe how easy it was to make delicious Artisan bread. I love the concept of preparing the dough (which really isn't time consuming at all) and then being able to use the dough anytime over the next 14 days to make bread whenever you feel like it. My family went crazy over the bread. I will never again have to spend $6 for a loaf of Artisan bread at the bakery. I purchased the book because in addition to the basic recipe, this wonderful book has many many more bread recipes that are also made quickly and easily. If you want to make your own delicious bread quickly and easily, I'd highly recommend this book.

Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day

I purchased this book about a week ago and absolutely love it. It is all I hoped it would be but didn't ever think it would live up to it's reputation. It has recipes galore that are easy to read and follow. I have tried several already and the end product is super delicious. Most of the ingredients are common items and easy to find in any grocery store. There are a few exceptions.
The main thing I would like to be different is the addition of more pictures. There are very few and I love to see what then end result should look like. Never the less I am thrilled with this book and very glad to have it.
Anyone could be a successful bread baker with this book.

The Smell of Freshly Baked Bread
Review created: 05/11/09

This book presents a method of integrating bread making with daily life with very little effort -- only "5 minutes a day". Over 100 recipes are presented -- crusty baguettes, pizzas, sandwich loafs, and buttery pastries. Chapters review ingredients; equipment, tips and techniques, the presentation of the Master Recipe; peasant loaves, and flatbreads. There is a source list for bread-baking products. There are some intriguing recipes I am interested to try: Spinach Feta Bread; Vermont Cheddar Bread; Roasted Garlic Potato Bread; Prosciutto and Olive Oil Flatbread and Armenian Lavash, a bread I love and said to be one of the oldest breads dating back "as many as ten thousand years". There is something for every bread lover in this book!

The recipes are simple and delicious! It's great to have such a versatile dough. I fix the 4 loaves at once and freeze what I don't use then reheat as needed and they are as fresh as when first baked! Thank you for putting this book together!

  Artisan Bread in a Jiffy!
Review created: 07/10/09

Actually I have not yet used this publication that I first read about on Trent Hamm's blog, The Simple Dollar. As a result, I am still unable to voice an honest opinion on it's value rating, not having put it to the test. However, the attraction it holds for me is the possibility of being able to produce artisan bread in my own kitchen by dedicating a mere five minutes a day to gain the benefits of a delicious homemade bread. Other than making quick breads, I have only tackled yeast bread baking once or twice in my life and quickly concluded that the time involved in gaining such a final product was just too time-consuming to take on as a routine activity. This book, and one other recipe offered some time ago, have captured my interest because of the limited time and experience the recipes require to turn out such fabulous end products.

Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day by Jeff Hertzberg
Review created: 08/20/09

I have never read a bad comment about this tasty bread. The book is becoming a classic. Jeff and Zoe really hit upon a winner with this book and it really does only take 5 minutes or less a day to produce a delicious loaf of Artisan bread. I love it for breakfast, toasted with butter and strawberry jam, or made into French Toast. I haven't tried all the recipes yet, but I am certain I will love them when I do. It is so simple a cave man can do it. :)

  Wonderful bread
Review created: 08/10/09

Love this book! I love bread, but buying it at the grocery store is expensive. This book teaches you how to make your own bread easily and cheaply. (Once you get past the basic bread recipes, the ingredients can get a little more expensive, because you're buying specialty flours.) I've probably baked a loaf at least 2-3 times a week in the last two months.
