Album Notes If you prefer the Caetano Veloso of the late '60s and early '70s, than this is the collection for you. Beginning with "Coratpo Vagabundo," a sublime duet with Gal Costa, and then heading straight into the Tropicalia years, this CD also offers a few surprises. The live version of "Ambiente de Festival (E Proibido Proibir)" with music provided by Os Mutantes, sounds ready to spark a riot, while the version of "Baby" (also featuring Os Mutantes) is similarly incendiary. His songs from his European exile, sung in English, are a nice inclusion and show Veloso's melancholy side. Much like Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso fuses many elements of traditional Brazilian music with successive waves of pop, from the acid-rock and folk of the '60s to heavily orchestrated '70s funk, and so on. Regardless of what style he's appropriating, Veloso's unique style and inspired voice always predominates.
