A drama critic learns on his wedding day that his beloved maiden aunts are homicidal maniacs, and that insanity runs in his family.Cary Grant(Mortimer Brewster) is in love and about to marry Priscilla Lane( Elaine) when he stubles upon the fact that his two auntes are well just little crazy , his 2 auntes love to give the elderberry win e to the gentelmen callers the only problem is the wine is spiked with Arsenic. and you have good ole Uncle "Teddy" Brewster who is looney as a tume and still thinks hes fighting in the war , well hes digs cannels in the basement and they burry all they dead gentelmen down in th basement, does not sound like a comedy??? well it trult is as Mortimer trys to hide the fact that his auntes are crazy killers from everyone includeing elanie and the police , he himself begins to think hes crazy too . this is a movie back when movies were great orignally filmed in 1944

True comedy I own the VHS and dvd and also the book. this is a great movie.

It's wholesome, it's hilarious, and never gets old. I've been watching this movie with my mom three or four times every October since I was eight and it never gets old, just easier to quote.

This movie, directed by Frank Capra and starring Cary Grant and Priscilla Lane, is a riot. It is littered with hilarious black comedy and ironic words. The acting and casting are both superb.

The dialogue is wonderful, mind-blowing. The story is well done. Even the supporting actors performed wonderfully—Peter Lorre, as the doctor, “stole” the show, according to some critics. (Not that I necessarily agree.) Grant is hilarious.

The movie opens with a couple at a marriage license office. Two newspaper reporters notice that the man seems to be Mortimer Bruster, a well known bachelor who has written extensively on the follies of marriage. As the story moves on, we get to know his two elderly aunts (who were simply awesome as actresses) and his two brothers, along with several family secrets.

All in all a five star comedy with just the right amount of dash of romance.

This is a really well-acted movie, especially Cary Grant's expressive facial antics. If you like old movies, and perhaps enjoy your horror mixed with a little tongue-in-cheek humor, then I can wholeheartedly recommend this film.

This is a timeless classic, if you have not seen this movie and you like true comedy this is that movie.

This is my favorite old movie. It is so funny. I love all the actors in the movie. My favorite character is Mortimer (Cary Grant), this is his funniest roll.

This has to be one of Cary Grants best films. The situations he is put in and the family that he loves might make you think twice about the sanity of your own family. A truely great film!

This is one of the better old black and white films. It is a good humor film very light hearted. It is truly a classic with some of the better actors/actresses of its time.

With a little understanding of American history and appreciation for humor you can't help but love this movie! Two old ladies "helping" lonely old men. A anti-marriage writer getting married. Teddy "charging" up the stairs. If you've seen it you understand and are laughing, if not, see the movie. Great clean humor for the family.

Gene Kelly flows right along as he gets married, finds out his aunts are eleven times murderers, survives a murder attempt from his half brother, puts his whole family in the loony bin then heads off to niagra falls to enjoy wedded bliss.

How can you match such a classic? Mystery, comedy, and suspense run throughout the film. Top-notch actors. Excellant story line. One you will watch over and over many times and enjoy as if you're seeing it for the first time.

This is the kind of movie we should be watching. Clean and funny. I recommend this movie to all.Cary Grant was charming and his aunts are hilarius.

Great movie, perfectly remasterd and colored. Such a funny old classic; my 15-year-0ld laughed harder than us "old folks". Terrific family viewing.

Cary Grant- need a lady say more?

Mr. Grant was such a great actor. I would love to see movies made like Arsenic and Old Lace. No profanity. No nudity. No sex scenes. Just excellent family fun at it's finest!!

I just love the movies. I saw it on TV as a child and loved it. Cute romantic comedy about two little old ladies who feel they are doing the Christian thing by murdering elderly gentlemen who are alone in the world.

One of our favorite Cary Grant movies. A comedy with many twists, not your typical boy meets girl scenario. Raymond Massey makes a wonderful Boris Karloff type villain and Peter Lorre is hilarious as his sidekick. The movie revolves around Cary Grants aunts questionable activities along with their brother "Teddy Roosevelt" who is as certifiable as the aunts are.(Reminds us of a few dear family members). We love the witty dialogue , great acting, and fast pace as the movie works to the conclusion. This movie has become our traditional Halloween must see. "Oh Mortimer!"
