This book finds Terry Brooks up to his usual fine form in this first-of-three books in the trilogy of another generation of Knights of the Word. Logan Tom, one of the few remaining Knights of the Word, is sent to find the gypsy morph, child of Nest Freemark and part of the only hope mankind has. He is not, however, the only Knight sent on a quest of extreme importance. And these quests' success - or failure - will determine humanity's future. What will happen? The questions aren't answered here, but the events are set in motion in this book. If you love Terry Brooks' past work, you'll also love this. I have to admit, though, to feeling a bit more pessimism in this work than in past works. Perhaps it is because the events that happen to make this world occur are accelerating in our world - the pollution of the land and water, the widening gap between those who have and those who don't. Otherwise, though, this is a terrific effort from one of the premiere writers of fantasy alive today.
