great "Break Out" based game with nice added touches

I owned this NES cartridge back in the eighties, but had it stolen from me, along with the all-important dial controller. When I say "all-important", I mean it. Even though this game can be played with the standard Nintendo game pad, I do not recommend it if you want to enjoy it and actually progress to higher levels. The dial controller (sometimes referred to as "Vaus controller") I speak of is somewhat rare and can commonly be found on separate Ebay auctions for under $30. It plugs into the second controller port on the NES console. Buy it, buy it, buy it! You will only have $40-$50 invested total. This is still cheaper than the $54.99 I remember paying retail for the complete package back in the 1980's. One more thing about the Arkanoid Vaus controller: I am told it will also function great with another Taito NES game called "Chase HQ" to allow you to steer the car. NES Arkanoid is everything Atari's Break Out should have been. My only qualm is that it progresses from easy to difficult levels relatively quickly. By level four or five of this game the pace can become frenetic fast. My memories from the eighties are that I probably never got past level seven. Even with that, this game is well worth the price. The power-up pills, changing block layouts, and occasional teleport doors keep Arkanoid both interesting and challenging. If you can get a copy for under $15, by all means do so. It is one of the better titles ever released for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
