When they redesigned the shuffle as a compact little clip on, I thought it was brilliant! I actually bought this item for my 4 year old. May seem indulgent, but it's actually a great tool to keep her occupied on long car rides. I've loaded it with songs from her favorite movies and some other songs she likes and I love that I can set the volume level to prevent damage to her tender ears. It's cute and simple enough even for a 4 year old! As they say, music soothes the savage beast!

Thhe iPod shuffle 2nd Generation is simple to use and very dependable. It sinks with itunes and even my girlfriend who hates technology can add and remove songs with ease. The usb connection charges the battery while you add or removes songs from your computer. It's size is perfect with simple controls that can clip on anywhere. The 1GB size is more than enough to hold the songs she wants to listen to. All things considered, it's a great gift for the price.

Easy to use, much better than the new generation model. Thew new model, and one of the reasons I dislike Apple in general, has a proprietary headphones. These older versions allow you to use your own headphones. Small, easy to use, reliable.

I love the size and convenience of clipping on a shirt, belt loop, or pocket. Simple to use and lasts for 10-12 hours. I had another one that I used for 2 1/2 years until it died. I bought this one because I liked my other one so much and it was cheaper to buy a new one rather than fix the old one.

It's a terrific little gadget that I have learned to use & love. I can put my favorite music on it, play it while I'm studying and it helps to aleviate the household noise while I am studying. I wish I had bought myself one earlier. It was a great birthday present from me to me.

I bought this item for my neice and while her response was less than stellar, since she wanted a nano and never mentioned it, she uses it all the time. Especially when she is travelling on the bus to and from school. She loves that it cuts down on the amount of verbage she doesn't care for. My sister tells me she also uses it while performing chores outside.
Personally, I love that the shuffle is a great starter ipod for kids. I personally prefer the nano because I can create playlists and see what I am listening to. However a nano is quite an investiment if you don't know if the kid is ready yet. This is the perfect item generally at a reasonable price.
