The 4th Gen Nano does it right!
Review created: 09/24/08

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The 4th generation Nano, Available in capacities of 8GB, and 16GB (priced at $149 & $199 respectively) these have a scratch-resistant aluminum body and are now slimmer than ever. The unit has new rounded, contour edges that make it feel thinner than it is and feel right in your hand. The new line-up comes in a whole array of colors to match the rainbow, and to match your personality as well.

The 4th Generation Nano has completely redesigned the Nano over the 3rd generation “Fat”, and it feels like it is different on the sides when you hold it comparatively to the older generations. Stepping back to the 1st and 2nd generation designs, it takes the good of the style of the 2nd gen, along with the advancements in the “Fat” 3rd generation versions, and creates a winning design. This design is a lot thinner than it was, yet retains the 2-inch screen, though it is millimeters thinner. The new screen saves the room for viewing your tracks and playing games, but the genius comes in the flipping of the screen.

The screen with this change, still has a 2-inch viewing area, which makes it very easy to use, browse and watch. When view movies, shows, podcasts with the new Nano, the Nano should be flipped to a “widescreen” view, in which the new accelerometer changes the landscape and viewing of this device. This new Nano still has a long battery life. Apple claims that it will last 36 hours, but I was able to get just over 32 hours of playtime – which is nice… real nice. The video experience was just over 6 hours – as advertised.

Another thing about the accelerometer. The accelerometer also enables 'shake to shuffle', where a flick of the wrist will choose a random song. This feels like it has been done right. It also allows easy use of the coverflow system, which runs much smoother this time around.

The new music search functions (Genius), the brighter screen,, sound quality, smoother ease and use of coverflow, and continued games support give the new iPod added flare. The addition of voice notes won't make a difference to most people, as you'll need to buy some extra headphones with a microphone built in – but it is nice to know that it is there if you do.

The addition of Genius, an automatic playlist generator, is going to be a massive hit with iPod fans. Genius will be massive, because it will - if it works as advertised - unlock the potential of your iPod library and help keep parties jumping or evenings chilled. It will also allow Apple to recommend tracks to you by your listening tastes as well.

As a fan small MP3 players, and of the past Nano line-ups, I love this design. I really do. I think the all aluminum casing is the way to go, and I am happy again that it is all around the unit. Should you replace your old 8GB Nano (3rd Generation) with the new one? If you really want accelerometer video abilities and Genius, I would say yes. Regardless if you upgrade, or decided to wait it out, I highly recommended this device to Apple lovers and new MP3 enthusiasts alike.

Pros:
-Brighter, crisper viewing screen
-Aluminum scratch-resistant casing all around the body
-Amazing battery-life: 30+ hours plus (6+ with video)!
-Search features, cover flow, album art, Genius
-Accelerometer for video viewing and song shuffling
-Genius song selection
-Microphone capabilities
-LOTS of new colors to choose from
-Games via iTunes

Cons
-Still no built in FM tuner
-Limited space when it comes to video & games

  fake iPod

this item turns out to be a scam despite being described as an authentic Apple iPod. nothing in the add could let one suspect that this wasn't the real thing. the seller even confirmed that this was a 4th generation model when i asked.

Awesome design with some minor flaws
Review created: 10/14/08

Pros...

-8gb for only $149
-16gb for only $199
-Tons of colors
-Beautiful screen
-All aluminum rather than the easily scratched mirror type backing
-Lighter than ever

Cons...

-Cover flow is an annoying feature that currently cannot be disabled and causes the iPod to only be function able when it is vertical.
-Shake to shuffle is also pretty much pointless
-Click wheel is a little unresponsive

All in all I really like my new iPod, and the only flaws could easily be solved with a firmware update - therefore I recommend getting a new Nano 4th Generation!

Amazing! Excellent! Just Like The 8GB Version! RED!
Review created: 09/14/09

MY REVIEW:

SPECIAL NOTE:
I copied and pasted most of my review of the 8GB version, because it is almost identical, save having twice the memory.

WEIGHT:
This iPod is much lighter than the 3rd Gen Nano. It feels nice and balanced in my hand and is a very enjoyable experience just holding it, at least for a technology lover like myself. Also, surprisingly, it feels to be the same weight as the 8GB version.

FEEL:
The feel is amazing! It has an interesting texture that I just can't wrap my mind around, and I think it will be very resistant to scratching.

On the other hand, I the touchpad is less responsive than the 3rd generation Nano; although overall, from an optimistic standpoint, I think that will be a good thing when you consider the less likelihood of it changing songs r volume in your pocket, if you forget to lock it.

The 16GB version is identical to the 8GB version here.

SIZE & SHAPE:
It is curved, and fits very nicely in my hand. Also, since it is curved, it actually feels less thick than it is, because it is less thick on the sides than in the middle. Even at its thickest it is actually very thin. I thought it would be a bad thing that it is much longer than the 3rd Gen Nano. However, I am surprised because it actually feels smaller, since it both has a smaller width and a smaller depth, and because it is also lighter. The shape of it makes
me think it will b easier to reach in my pocket. I always had to dig in my pockets to find the 3G Nano.

The 16GB version is identical to the 8GB version here.

SCREEN:
WOw. Very surprised here. I was a cynic of this iPod until I received it in my hand. I am impressed of the usefulness of the turned screen. Since the screen on this 4G (4th Generation) version is taller than wide, as opposed to the 3G version which is wider than tall, the screen real estate is actually more useful. I always found it annoying on the 3G Nano because half the screen was useless. I found the pictures that displayed to the right half of the menu screen no to be a good thing, but I liked them there because I felt like I was up-to-par with technology, like I didn't have an old iPod (I still feel the 3G is not yet outdated). However, with this 4G version, the letters are actually bigger, and there are more things that can be seen as you scroll down the screen.

Even more amazing about the screen is not the fact that it seems more vivid, and not mentioning it seems brighter, and not mentioning that it has more pixels than the 3G, but rather the most amazing thing is that you can turn in on its side and the whole screen shifts over long ways. If you don't know what I mean, go to the Apple website and they might have a video demonstration. It's pretty awesome. Unfortunately, this feature does not work in the menus - only in games or on songs.

The 16GB version is identical to the 8GB version here.

COLOR:
I wish this one had a black trackwheel instead of a white trackwheel.

OVERALL:
I give this Nano a 9/10. Identical to the 16GB, besides the color and amount of memory. I highly recommend this iPod, and this is coming from someone who used to look down on the new Nano!
Besides the PS3, this is one of my favorite purchases this year!

  Great Ipod !!
Review created: 08/08/09

I'm very happy with my 16GB Apple Ipod. It easily fits in your shirt pocket. I've got over 400 songs and 11 movies and I still have over 8GB more to down load. The screen is small (2")but that is expected with the over all size of the ipod. When your close watching movies the color, clarity and sound are real good ! The battery life when watching movies does go down quick. I can watch at least two movies. Songs you can go a real long time. But again to keep it small, with a 2" screen the battery capacity will be reflected by it's size. I use it alot and to date I've had no problems.
Overall I'm very happy with this ipod. Highly recommend it !

I love my new nano. Great for in the car, cleaning the house, and going for a run. I own a few other ipod models - I like that this one is small, but still has a screen to view.

Review of: RED iPod nano (4Gen, 16GB)
Review created: 04/23/09

This iPod is a wonderful product, like its predecessors, with so many wonderful improvements. Whether it is the ability to watch your favorite videos on a surprisingly sharp display, shuffle the songs with a shake of the ipod, or play games using the built-in sensor, this cost efficient and stylish iPod is HIGHLY recommended. FYI- I don't work for apple or anything, so even though this sounds like some advertisment junk- its not! this little machine serves me well!

  Apple iPodnano 16GB MP# Player MB917LL/A
Review created: 01/11/09

I searched eBay for many of my Christmas gifts this year.I kept selling items on eBay to keep money in my Paypal account so that I could keep buying. I bought this particular iPod because it was 16GB for nearly the same price as many 8GB. My son loves it and he is "picky". The nano chromatic iPod comes in many colors and since his preference was red, that is what I bid on. I would highly recommend it! Happy eBaying, Andrea (greek11)

Ease of use, bigger hard drive, excellent sound are some of the features I like most. My only dislike is they could have bundled a high end earphone!!
Planning on buying another one for my daughter.
