The 4th Generation Nano has completely redesigned the Nano over the 3rd generation “Fat”, and it feels like it is different on the sides when you hold it comparatively to the older generations. Stepping back to the 1st and 2nd generation designs, it takes the good of the style of the 2nd gen, along with the advancements in the “Fat” 3rd generation versions, and creates a winning design. This design is a lot thinner than it was, yet retains the 2-inch screen, though it is millimeters thinner. The new screen saves the room for viewing your tracks and playing games, but the genius comes in the flipping of the screen.

The screen with this change, still has a 2-inch viewing area, which makes it very easy to use, browse and watch. When view movies, shows, podcasts with the new Nano, the Nano should be flipped to a “widescreen” view, in which the new accelerometer changes the landscape and viewing of this device. This new Nano still has a long battery life. Apple claims that it will last 36 hours, but I was able to get just over 32 hours of playtime – which is nice… real nice. The video experience was just over 6 hours – as advertised.

Another thing about the accelerometer. The accelerometer also enables 'shake to shuffle', where a flick of the wrist will choose a random song. This feels like it has been done right. It also allows easy use of the coverflow system, which runs much smoother this time around.

The new music search functions (Genius), the brighter screen,, sound quality, smoother ease and use of coverflow, and continued games support give the new iPod added flare. The addition of voice notes won't make a difference to most people, as you'll need to buy some extra headphones with a microphone built in – but it is nice to know that it is there if you do.

The addition of Genius, an automatic playlist generator, is going to be a massive hit with iPod fans. Genius will be massive, because it will - if it works as advertised - unlock the potential of your iPod library and help keep parties jumping or evenings chilled. It will also allow Apple to recommend tracks to you by your listening tastes as well.

As a fan small MP3 players, and of the past Nano line-ups, I love this design. I really do. I think the all aluminum casing is the way to go, and I am happy again that it is all around the unit. Should you replace your old 8GB Nano (3rd Generation) with the new one? If you really want accelerometer video abilities and Genius, I would say yes. Regardless if you upgrade, or decided to wait it out, I highly recommended this device to Apple lovers and new MP3 enthusiasts alike.

I had a Rio 5 Gig for a couple of years and I loved it, the ancient interface notwithstanding. But the battery went and is irreplaceable, so I figured it was time to break down and go for an iPod like the rest of my family.
I've only had it a few days but so far I'm loving it. The design is beautiful. The new graphic interface has the feel of the iPhone. Loading with iTunes is very easy. Note that if you use both Mac and PC like me, format it first on the PC and you will be able to load from any computer. Also not that the only movie format it takes is MP4 from what I can tell so far.
Only two downsides to this point. One, you'll want to get a case if you want to move it around from pocket to napsack to dresser etc. There are several types available on eBay (I've ordered a Belkin). The other thing is very minor - you may find using the click-wheel is a little bit clumsy for aging (50+) fingers. But I expect I'll get more used to it.

I like the size of this Ipod. It is very light. You even don not feel it in your pocket. Also it has a sensor, when you turn it, the screen also turns and plus nice sound ofcourse. Thi is it, a real ipod=))))

I bought the 4th Gen iPod nano after I accidentally washed and dried my 3rd Gen. Oops! Replacing the battery was almost as expensive as buying new, and then I read the fine print. Apple won't replace a battery that has been damaged by water or other liquids. So, for my money, the 4th Gen seemed like the logical choice.

My 3rd Gen ended up in the wash because I sometimes put it in my pocket while working around the house and listening to tunes. Forgot to check the pockets!

I'm utterly amazed at this nano's capacity and battery life; also the quick charge time. It's just as easy to operate as the 3rd Gen and it's so much smaller and lighter! With the curvature all around the edges, it seems even smaller than its 3-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1/4" actual size. Yes, you read that right! At its thickest, this tiny powerhouse is only 1/4" thick.

I bought the 8G, and since I use mine for music and podcasts, I doubt I'll ever come close to using all my capacity. If I do, there's always music I've put on it in the past that I don't listen to very often anymore. I'm not certain how to remove "stuff" from my nano without deleting it from my iTunes library, and if I can't, that may be a drawback. [Well, I just dug through the on-line manual and, guess what? The ONLY way to delete something from my iPod is to delete it from my iTunes library. Oops!]

My husband is not a great fan of technology -- at least not of getting it up and running, but after using my nano to practice dance steps (we're taking dance lessons), he mentioned that he might like one of his own. Well,he got it as an early Father's Day present. Of course, it was all set up before I gave it to him.

Now, about killing my Gen 3, I love to bead, so I've made a beaded pocket and lanyard so I will never again put my nano in my pocket. And I've made the pocket wide enough that I can tuck the ear buds in next to my nano when I'm not listening. When I'm active, I can tuck the whole package inside my shirt. I bought my husband an armband holder -- a good investment for active nano users.
Anyone with access to a sewing machine and basic sewing skills could easily whip up a pocket for their nano. I guarantee it will take less time than beading the pocket and lanyard. But then again, no one else will ever have a carrier for their nano like mine.

Bottom line? Buy it! You'll love it!!!

This ipod is awesome. I can do everything I need. I especially like the genius feature and I like how it shuffles when you shake it. If I could change anything it would be that the shuffle would have the option to work on playlist or all the music. Overall great product

I never got my product. The seller took my money but no IPOD. I had to dispute the sale and I got my money back.
It makes me very caution about using Ebay again.

Was going to get a itouch, but really wanted an mp3 player now and didn't have 180 to spend, so the only reason its Good, not Excellent is because I wanted the touchscreen, otherwise its is an awesome little buddy. Lots of great features like the shake to shuffle, the genius app, and the games are super cool.

One note: If you plug it in w/o itunes installed, windows will prompt u to format the disk, don't do it, it sends it into some sort of shock and it will restart over and over and u won't be able to listen to or add songs, BUT once you download itunes, itunes will fix it for you, so thats awesome!

Every now and then the Genius feature throws in a terrible choice

Overall, I absolutely love it. I wish the battery life lasted much longer (averaging 7-8 hours per charge compared to the advertised 24) but its not a bother to charge it at night.
