Apple iPod Mini: Perfect Balance of Memory. Portability
Review created: 09/26/05

Well good thing you are on eBay - because thats now the best and really the only place to buy iPod Minis. Now that Apple has forgone the iPod Mini series for the iPod Nano. Now that the Nano is getting all of the press attention for being the sexiest gadget ever - its hard to remember that just 12 - 18 months ago, the iPod Mini was in the same boat. And, for iPod Mini fans, thats good news because it means that the value of the Mini has decreased - effectively making them cheaper to buy on eBay as everyone else oogles at the Nano.

And I'm not 100% convinced that the Nano is better than the Mini. I believe it depends on what you are using it - the Mini is sturdier than the Nano - in fact, there are already blogs and reviews citing the Nano's lack of durability - something the Mini is great at. Of course, the give in that situation is that the Nano is lighter than the Mini... but remember - we are only talking ounces!

For the dollar, you get more music storage with the Mini than just about anything on the market - and all in a very light-wight MP3 player body. But again - it depends what you are looking for:

* If you want to a large music library - either for the office, the road or your home - the regular iPod is a better value and better idea

* If you are a gym-rat looking for the lightest MP3 player - perhaps you want a tiny flash player like the Rios, the Shuffle, or the Nano

But if you are looking for the perfect hybrid MP3 player - small enough to take a run with but spacious enough to play hours of unique music at the office - the iPod Mini really is the perfect solution. And of course it has the Apple interface and sexiness.

The minor points: with the second generation of the iPod Mini, Apple has improved the color scheme and really made them shinier and brighter. My preference is the Silver color - but beware that it will show scratches and nicks more so than the other colors. The Blue is bright, the pink quite girly, and the green look a little much like split pea soup for me =)

  R.I.P. Ipod Mini: 2004-2005
Review created: 09/27/05
49 of 59 people found this review helpful.

With the Ipod Mini officially retired, the only way you are going to find one is online or on the clearance shelf. That actually works in your favor as this is probably the best MP3 player on the market for the dollar.

Everyone knows Apple has a stranglehold on the MP3 market and the Mini did nothing to reduce that theory. It was small, had the infamous click-wheel as well as an assortment of colors that appeal to just about everyone. It has a wealth of accessories available at cheap prices as well as great technical support (though you won't need it most likely).

The menu system is intuitive and easy to navigate. The display is clear and bright and has a nice bluish shade that fades out from non-use. It's durable too though it's hard-drive based so you'd be smart not to use it while jogging or otherwise moving constantly. It also includes ITunes which is pretty much the software to use for MP3 maintenance.

It's unfortunate that Apple didn't incorporate FM radio into any of it's MP3 players like Rio did. Of course, people snatched them up anyway because it's Apple. The battery itself has some issues as well and often will die before the 500 charge/recharge cycle as arrived. If it's not under warranty, you may as well buy a new Ipod since battery replacement costs nearly as much as buy one.

New Ipod Mini's can be had for $150 on eBay so it's a great time to buy one. Though the Ipod Nano replaced it, it's a stellar MP3 player to own provided you don't need mega-storage.

Buying a mini was the best choice for me. Its compact, but can still hold over a 1000 songs. It has the versatility to make play lists unlike the shuffle. Also, the battery life is impressive and its easy to use. I would defiantly recommend the mini to anyone.

iPod & Audible Books combo a hit for audio learners
Review created: 06/24/06
11 of 15 people found this review helpful.

By now you should know that the iPod is something that every person on earth should have. If you don't have one yet get one of the new ones that playback video. I personally own an iPod mini because that's what my friend bought me for Christmas 2 years ago when it came out. But if I had to buy one now I would definitely get the nano because of it's size and sleek design.

Everyone should buy an Apple iPod because of the fact that you could listen to audio books from Audible.com during your drive to and from work. That'll educate you while you're on road. You have plenty of titles to choose from. Since some of us are audio learners this is an amazing new learning experience brought to you by iPod and Audible. Also you get a free audio book by joining the club.

I hope this helps you bid on one of the iPods on ebay. Again enjoy the learning.

iPod Mini's Great Product Just invest in a case
Review created: 01/17/06

I am a big fan of the iPod mini! I have had a lot of the other iPods in the series but I have always like the mini the best. It is small enough to fit in you pocket comfortably yet still supplies the music storage for all the songs I could possible need.

The only thing I don’t like about the iPods in general is that they are not as durable as some of the other MP3 players on the market. Without a proper case your screen is easily scratched and because of this fact resale value also decreases. So if you are going to purchase an iPod mini or any iPod in general make sure you invest in a case.

  The Mini
Review created: 02/24/06

The iPod mini is a great mp3 player. Its downloading system is much simpler and even more convienent than the iPod Nano. You can just enter your "library" of music, click a song, and drag it over onto the iPod logo. But with the Nano any song you import to your library automatically goes straight to your iPod when you plug it in next. It may seem like a quik way to download but is a very poor concept, because it makes deleting unwanted songs extremely frustrating. The Nano's size is much too small, thin, and light for me because it can easyily be lost. The iPod mini's control wheel is very smooth and turns with ease. But the Nano's wheel is more stiff and does not glide smoothly at all. 3 months ago you could easily buy an iPod Mini for $200 but Nanos are going for about $250. I decided to buy the iPod Mini because I liked its size, shape, song storage, feel, and had a pretty good price. Overall, I believe that the iPod Mini has a great feel, size, shape, and storage capibility. Get the Mini, not a Nano

Great value when Nano gets all the attention
Review created: 11/28/05

7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Of course, as most of you all have probably known, Apple has discontinued the line of Ipod Mini as Nano has been emerging into the market quick, and quickier. Since I'm not entirely convinced that Nano is any better than Mini, it's probably the best time for you to grab one Mini if you're seeing a price that seems affordable to you.

Really, the way I see it, Nano and Mini are not so much different except in size, and perhaps it's 'cooler' to have Nano around these days. But who knows when Apple will be coming up with Pico? Obviously, what we all need is a MP3 player that stores a reasonable amount of songs and able to play whenever we want. Thus, I recommend going for a not-so-much different product but a much less price, which seems more logic to me.

I've been owning Mini since it first released and I've tried Nano but decided to return it. Several reasons are as follow:

1) Nano is too small for me to realise if there is anything in my pocket before I put the clothes in loundry. Seriously, the device is so small that makes me think it's not really practical for its intended usage.

2) I prefer the battery life in Mini much more than Nano. Typically, my Mini lasts about 15 hours of continous music playing whereas my ex-Nano lasted about 11 hours.

There are still several other personal preferences over why I chose Mini instead of Nano, but I believe I've made my points acrossed in this review. If you're making a choice between Nano and Mini, I'd certainly recommend you to try out Mini before purchasing Nano, especially when the price is sinking right now!

  Great product but some shortcomings
Review created: 12/30/05

great overall but a few things to look out for
1. battery life - many people have complained about its short battery life and i certainly support this. I think after a few months of use its battery life decreases.
2. can be easily scratched - if you want it to look perfect, you should buy a gel case or leather case.
3. latest version before being discontinued did not include separate power cord - if you want to recharge it without plugging it into a computer, you must buy a separate cord. Before buying one on ebay, ask if it includes this cord or not.

The Ipod Mini is Still A Keeper
Review created: 12/25/05

With Apple's new Ipods out it's not fair to assume that those are better. THe ipod mini is the perfect choice for me and i wish that Apple neveer ended their run.

THe Ipod mini fits 1000 songs, and has the perfect size, not too big and not too small. It still has the click wheel and the signature ipod design. It also comes in several unique colors that any other ipods have yet to produce. Also know since this ipod is not longer for sale by apple you can get them very cheap. Here on ebay or from an outlet seller you can get a good percentage of the price off.

I would prefer this over the new ipods that theyve released. THe shuffle has no screen and it is too small and i just dont find it for me. THe sleek ipod nano is very flashy, looks great, and fits a good amount of songs. But there are alot of complaints that the screen can easily be cracked and scratched.

I'd recommend you to choose the Mini over the others because of its durability, lowered price, nice colors, and overall better performance.

Ipod mini - Its a sure Winner!
Review created: 12/08/05
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

But it's not just about looks - the iPod Mini sounds fantastic. After comparing it with my third-generation iPod, tracks definitely sounded clearer on the iPod Mini, as if it were capable of better frequency response. By comparison the 3G iPod sounded positively muffled. A sign of PortalPlayer's enhanced audio chip, perhaps.

The Mini's packaging is as lovely as ever. The box lid slides off to reveal the mini wrapped in plastic. The box underneath is split in two halves - one for the install discs and one for the headphones, USB cable and a belt holster. As with all the new iPods there's no Firewire cable, no dock, no remote - but they are available as optional extras. There's no AC adaptor either, so you can only charge when connected to the PC.

There are other missing features that might give pause for thought, such as a radio, recording function and microphone. But if it's just a player you want these absences won't be noticed. For me the only reason I wouldn't want one is that I do want to carry my entire music collection around with me. Or at least more of it than I could fit on a 6GB drive.

One day of course, a 20GB iPod will be this size, but for now six gigs is your limit. At this capacity it no longer loses out to the Zen Micro and H10, but while Creative and iRiver have both worked hard on improving the look and usability of their players, the Mini is still miles ahead. With its rounded sides and neat click-wheel interface, it feels right in you hand and is easy to control and use too.

Verdict
With the new iPod Mini, Apple has increased its capacity by a 50 per cent, battery-life by one-and-a-quarter times and improved sound quality. It's a pretty impressive triple whammy and as long as its capacity is large enough for you, the iPod Mini would be our recommended digital audio player.

I love my little nano, just to easy to loose, so small
Review created: 04/12/06
3 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Overall
The somewhat pricey 4GB iPod Nano has just the right size for holding a “normal” (about 1000 songs) music library collection. The sound and non-skip playback are perfect enough for me. Even when considering the extra costs for accessories and the questionable screen durability and long-term battery life, I’m was very happy with my “little” nano. It is elegant and just plain cool. The songs are very easy to organize and I just love to work out with my ipod.
but,,,,

With much sadness, I must report that my very little nano was lost and thats why I have to give 4 stars instead of five for this great ipod. So heres my full review. To sum it up, Apple focused on the "cool" factor in the nano design and seems to care less about security. Since the product is so slim and light weight, one would have thought that security was part of the design spec, but alas, that's obviously not true.
Because the nano is so small and light weight, you will not notice that it's gone until it's too late, so please keep that in mind for those that tend to lose things.

I was on a Southwest flight the other night and all through the airport during my layover I had been wearing my nano. I had been listening to it and during the last 10 minutes of the flight I turned it off and that's the last time I saw it. Between walking off the plane, walking down the jetway, stopping to put on my coat, and going down the escalator and checkthrough security I lost it. I didn't hear it drop b/c I had it in my pocket and you know they are very small.

So, there you go...I'm out the the nano ($250), I just which they had some type of insurance plan or something on these things because they are so small and easy to loose. There tiny.

My only suggestion for everyone else is to get a tube or case w/some type of belt loop for the nano that you can weave the metal connector part of the lanyard THROUGH. that helps. Will I buy another yes, but this time I am going with a large one that makes aloud noise if it falls out my pocket(lol)

As with all things Mac, the design of the Mini is sleek and user friendly, longer battery life and new iTunes features complete the package. As beautiful as the Nano is, it's too bad they're discontinuing the Mini, I've owned the full size iPod, too and the Mini is definitely an improvement. If you can get one of these, I highly recommend them. The 4GB or the 6GB offer more than enough space for all your favorite tunes.

Dislikes: I am not a big fan of itunes. It took awhile for me to get comfortable with it. It would be easier to just drop and drag the songs into a folder.

I decided to buy it because I have so many CDs and no portable music device. I love that I can carry around my music on one device instead of having to change CDs and such. The only thing I dislike is that the battery doesn't last as long as I'd like because I'm not always somewhere where I can charge it.

You may be asking yourself why would you choose a mini ipod if u could get a nano or a video which has been made to appear better. A mini ipod is a fantastic device in my opinion firstly you get a selection of colours, for example silver, green, blue. I do admit it cannot hold as much songs as the other ipods, however the average person in a community does not listen to over 1500 songs, so 4-6GB should be plenty. But young children of today buy 30GB+ and I ask myself what could possibly take up all that space with? I believe that if you are just going to be listening to music then by all means choose the ipod mini, it is cheap it has plenty of space and is very stylish. It is very basic system so even the older generations can easily learn how to use it and listen to their favourite songs of the past. Why spend more than £150 when you can get a much cheaper option which holds more than enough data that you will need. However if you are interested in watching videos etc. then perhaps it would be worth it, but why not use your computer for that, admitedly it is portable but is it really worth all that extra money? It is the perfect present for any person of any age, so why not consider this rather than spending a huge amount on something that has more space than you will ever need. So why not this christmas consider it and maybe you might just be able to save yourself a bit of money. Remember even if you are older just ask anyone in your local store to give you a begginers course to using your ipod. I hope this review gives you an idea of how you could save some money this christmas.

I got this iPod for on the go listening and so I would not have to carry my cd's in my car. The iPod functions work great. My only complaint is the bad battery. I can only get about 45 minutes out of a full charge. I ended up getting another (brand new) one and keeping this one just for use in the radio transmitting car charger. My advice, buy new.

I was in the market for an Ipod since I started walking to work everyday. I could have purchased it new but before I purchase anything, I always check Ebay. I am an Ebayer. I think it is the best way to shop. The Ipod I won was exactly as promised and exactly what I wanted. I checked the description very carefully so I knew exactly what I was getting. When I finally got it, it was exactly as promised and I love it! Thank you

A good iPod but short battery life
Review created: 08/10/06
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I love the iPod mini in general, it is very small and durable and you can get them quite inexpensivley on eBay. The only problem with this 1st Generation model is that the batteries only last up to 8 hours -and that's if the battery if still good and you don't change songs much. These are notorious for the batteries going bad early and needing replacement.

Consider the 2nd Generation (M9800LL/A) series for double the battery life and longevity. They are identical in other respects except 2nd generation models have the capacity (i.e. 4GB, 6GB) printed on the back of the iPod.
