Apple iPod Mini: Perfect Balance of Memory. Portability

Well good thing you are on eBay - because thats now the best and really the only place to buy iPod Minis. Now that Apple has forgone the iPod Mini series for the iPod Nano. Now that the Nano is getting all of the press attention for being the sexiest gadget ever - its hard to remember that just 12 - 18 months ago, the iPod Mini was in the same boat. And, for iPod Mini fans, thats good news because it means that the value of the Mini has decreased - effectively making them cheaper to buy on eBay as everyone else oogles at the Nano.

And I'm not 100% convinced that the Nano is better than the Mini. I believe it depends on what you are using it - the Mini is sturdier than the Nano - in fact, there are already blogs and reviews citing the Nano's lack of durability - something the Mini is great at. Of course, the give in that situation is that the Nano is lighter than the Mini... but remember - we are only talking ounces!

For the dollar, you get more music storage with the Mini than just about anything on the market - and all in a very light-wight MP3 player body. But again - it depends what you are looking for:

* If you want to a large music library - either for the office, the road or your home - the regular iPod is a better value and better idea

* If you are a gym-rat looking for the lightest MP3 player - perhaps you want a tiny flash player like the Rios, the Shuffle, or the Nano

But if you are looking for the perfect hybrid MP3 player - small enough to take a run with but spacious enough to play hours of unique music at the office - the iPod Mini really is the perfect solution. And of course it has the Apple interface and sexiness.

The minor points: with the second generation of the iPod Mini, Apple has improved the color scheme and really made them shinier and brighter. My preference is the Silver color - but beware that it will show scratches and nicks more so than the other colors. The Blue is bright, the pink quite girly, and the green look a little much like split pea soup for me =)

  Another hit from Apple ...

Bought this for my wife and she totally loves it. It has great battery life, and outstanding sound quality. It does not skip or trip inadvertent buttons (like other mp-3s do) while working out. Works seamlessly, which means that it works great. The software is easy to use also.

Size and weight are perfect for working out. We also use it in our car, and since it is so small it fits in any tray or even the cup holders. The menu is intuitive, just like the other Ipods.

It also has the capability of storing phone numbers and appointments directly from MS Outlook. Although, you can not edit any of the entries, but this is an mp3 player not a PDA, I consider it a bonus that it can hold this information.

4 Gigabytes is adequate, but if you have a big collection and don't want to be worried about planning, you may desire a larger drive. I wish that there was external storage, like an SD card, but that is not the IPOD way :-)

In general, if you can find it in Ebay, for the right price, let's say under $200.00 then it is a definite grabber.

  R.I.P. Ipod Mini: 2004-2005
Review created: 09/27/05
9 of 11 people found this review helpful.

With the Ipod Mini officially retired, the only way you are going to find one is online or on the clearance shelf. That actually works in your favor as this is probably the best MP3 player on the market for the dollar.

Everyone knows Apple has a stranglehold on the MP3 market and the Mini did nothing to reduce that theory. It was small, had the infamous click-wheel as well as an assortment of colors that appeal to just about everyone. It has a wealth of accessories available at cheap prices as well as great technical support (though you won't need it most likely).

The menu system is intuitive and easy to navigate. The display is clear and bright and has a nice bluish shade that fades out from non-use. It's durable too though it's hard-drive based so you'd be smart not to use it while jogging or otherwise moving constantly. It also includes ITunes which is pretty much the software to use for MP3 maintenance.

It's unfortunate that Apple didn't incorporate FM radio into any of it's MP3 players like Rio did. Of course, people snatched them up anyway because it's Apple. The battery itself has some issues as well and often will die before the 500 charge/recharge cycle as arrived. If it's not under warranty, you may as well buy a new Ipod since battery replacement costs nearly as much as buy one.

New Ipod Mini's can be had for $150 on eBay so it's a great time to buy one. Though the Ipod Nano replaced it, it's a stellar MP3 player to own provided you don't need mega-storage.

  What a girl wants

I have had my Ipod mini for about a year now. My husband bought it for me when my Dell DJ died after a little over a year of use. The mini is cute and it's easy to download song for it, however there are some problems. First as most people know there are battery issues. What's the deal! The battery ALWAYS needs to be charged, I have to carry the charging cord with a plug ( that we had to buy seperate) to make sure I can charge it if Im not at home. When I called the hotline about it they just try and sell me a service contract, they won't do anything for you (just like Dell wouldn't) the other problem is that if you have a computer with different id's on them and you both have seperate Itunes on it, you can't combine the songs that you buy from Itunes. All in all I wish I had purchased a different MP3 player. It is just AVERAGE at best.

My purchase of used Apple iPod mini Pink Review
Review created: 07/06/06
by:
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I bought this iPod mini for my 15 year old daughter. After having an iPod shuffle she was ready for a screen. The iPod mini served this purpose. When it arrived, she was happy. I was happy. We were all happy. The problem with this purchase was that this iPod mini only stays powered up for an hour. My daughter is constantly recharging it but again the power only lasts for an hour. I believe this problem can be fixed but with the cost almost equaling half of what I paid for the iPod, it hardly seems worth it.
The seller did mention a problem with the charger or its ability to stay charged. As a buyer, I feel I should have asked more questions, paid better attention to the seller's remarks. Unfortunately, I got caught up in the competition of bidding on an iPod. It is quite a "seller's market" for iPod's on ebay!
In the end, lessons learned:
1) pay better attention to seller's remarks; ask questions;
2) may be better of paying more money for a new model;

This is my second ipod mini. (I lost my 1st one on vacation) I love it! It's small enough to throw in your pocket while doing yard work, I have speakers in my house and also a transpod in my car. It goes everywhere! Easy to work at any age!

Ipod mini - Its a sure Winner!
Review created: 12/08/05
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

But it's not just about looks - the iPod Mini sounds fantastic. After comparing it with my third-generation iPod, tracks definitely sounded clearer on the iPod Mini, as if it were capable of better frequency response. By comparison the 3G iPod sounded positively muffled. A sign of PortalPlayer's enhanced audio chip, perhaps.

The Mini's packaging is as lovely as ever. The box lid slides off to reveal the mini wrapped in plastic. The box underneath is split in two halves - one for the install discs and one for the headphones, USB cable and a belt holster. As with all the new iPods there's no Firewire cable, no dock, no remote - but they are available as optional extras. There's no AC adaptor either, so you can only charge when connected to the PC.

There are other missing features that might give pause for thought, such as a radio, recording function and microphone. But if it's just a player you want these absences won't be noticed. For me the only reason I wouldn't want one is that I do want to carry my entire music collection around with me. Or at least more of it than I could fit on a 6GB drive.

One day of course, a 20GB iPod will be this size, but for now six gigs is your limit. At this capacity it no longer loses out to the Zen Micro and H10, but while Creative and iRiver have both worked hard on improving the look and usability of their players, the Mini is still miles ahead. With its rounded sides and neat click-wheel interface, it feels right in you hand and is easy to control and use too.

Verdict
With the new iPod Mini, Apple has increased its capacity by a 50 per cent, battery-life by one-and-a-quarter times and improved sound quality. It's a pretty impressive triple whammy and as long as its capacity is large enough for you, the iPod Mini would be our recommended digital audio player.

One of the best iPod Models Ever
Review created: 12/18/06

What I like about the minis is how they built very tough and rugged. Apple really hit the nail on the head when they made these. All 3 of mine have great batteries, but putting new ones in is easy on this model and costs as little as $8 here on eBay for the Kit. They are so easy to work on. Great MP3 Player

Apple Ipod Mini 6 Gig Pink
Review created: 12/20/05
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I found the apple ipod mini to be a pretty good consumer buy. It was fairly cheap compared to many of the other mp3's on the market and I use it everywhere. I love the concept that it can travl with me, to the gym, in my car and anywhere else I need it as well. It holds a good amount of songs for being a 6 gig mp3, with 800 songs on my ipod at the moment and a 1000 song capacity. It is easy to use for beginners or advanced mp3 users and comes with a good warranty. Overall I find Ipods to have made my musical life much more enhanced. I enjoy it everyday and would recommend this product to any mp3 purchaser.

well, I really like this ipod. It's neat and good sound quality. I have nothing to complain about. I bought this ipod for my niece. She loves it even it's used. Also, the color is just what she wants. I think this one is better than the new mini ipod. The new mini ipod is too small and thin so I think the kids will easy to lose them. This is why I love the original design. One more thing I have to mention. It's great that ipod have different languages that you can choice because my niece and nephew can read only Chinese. Then I feel comfortable to buy this product.

I bought this item for my daughter as a birthday gift. I have not had a bad purchasing experience on Ebay up to now. The item received was not the item described in the auction in any way. The item was obviously used and not even pink. Its difficult to give someone a gift of a Used item, especially when you thought you were purchasing new. This experience does not compare favorably to any of my other purchases on Ebay, and since I am not sure if the item works or not, cannot give you a better description. What I can say is if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

  Still better then Nano
Review created: 08/29/06
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This iPod is much more durable then the new Nano. If you a user like me and want to be on the go with your player, be able to put it in the center console of your car or truck and not worry about easily damaging your iPod, this is for you.

Because it uses non-hard drive memory, it is much less sensitive to shock or rough use, giving it a huge advantage over the new Nano.

4/5 because the 1st generation Mini has a very unreliable battery. Most of them go bad within first year of use. The good thing is, you can still purchase a brand new battery for it right here on eBay for less then $10 shipping included and it takes less then 5 minutes to replace the battery with minimal or none electronic repair experience.

Hope this helps you in your buying process.

A good ipod but has a short, unreliable battery life
Review created: 08/10/06
2 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I love the iPod mini in general, it is very small and durable and you can get them quite inexpensivley on eBay. The only problem with this 1st Generation model is that the batteries only last up to 8 hours -and that's if the battery if still perfect and you don't change your songs much. These are notorious for the batteries going bad early and needing replacement.

Consider the 2nd Generation (M9800LL/A) series for double the battery life and longevity. They are identical in other respects except 2nd generation models have the capacity (i.e. 4GB, 6GB) printed on the back of the iPod.

  The Touchpad Needs Work
Review created: 07/29/06
2 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I love the color--shiny pink. There's plenty of memory for me. My only compaint--I have trouble selecting the artists and playlists with the finger touch pad. I have asked other people who have the same mini ipod if they have trouble and they all say yes they do too. The touch is not immediate like a mouse for example and then when you get it moving it is hard to stop on the one you want to stop on. And of course the lists are long so I end up schrolling back and forth for a few minutes.

like that the wheel is not as sensitive. Great for older people who are new to the ipod products. It is a hard drive so the negative is that if you do drop it, it will break much easier than the ipod nano which is a flash drive.
