Apple iPod 3rd Generation White (10 GB) MP3 Player

I dislike the battery life of my ipod it doesn't seem to last as long as my last mp3 player. But other then that I am very happy with it. I love the facto that there are so many available accesories for it.

Had hoped to get a 'Used - past generation' Ipod for under a hundred bucks.
Figured someone upgrading would be happy for the extra cash, and since I DON'T need mega GB's of space, I would be getting a unit cheaper than a new one that had half the capacity.

Well I indeed got the 10gb Ipod for a good price....looked brand new and came with a number of new accessories that probably cost what I paid fpr the Ipod.
The unit works great, tho it's 'touch' buttons are ultra sensitive and it is almost impossible to use without LOCKING it up so you don't accidentally change songs, volume, etc...not a big problem.

My only quibble- and this seems true of most USED MPG players- regardless of brand- the battery life is well below average.. somewhere between 3-4 hours.
Okay for short needs, but dissaponting for long hauls.

Bottom line....you DO get what you pay for.... I was only willing to dole out a part of what a new unit cost and I got only part of what a new unit provides..

Pay half a loaf and that is what you will get.

But given all that I think it was a good deal overall.

This iPod model is the "third" generation (3G), but it is really the second style change for the iPod (1G and 2G iPods looked almost the same). Apple went all out with the touch-sensitive controls on this one. It is the only iPod model that uses "solid state" (touch sensitive and non-moving) controls for all the controls (five buttons and scroll wheel). Therefore, the front surface has no holes or seams; it is the opposite of the "click wheel" on current iPods. It is also the only iPod with backlit buttons (they glow orange). And Apple introduced the now standard iPod Dock Connector on this model.

This iPod model has some cons. The main one is the battery; it is somewhat weak, even when new. If buying a used 3G iPod, look for one with a new battery. You can also buy a new battery on eBay, and replace it yourself. Most of the replacement batteries have a higher capacity than the original battery. The trickiest thing is opening the iPod. Most replacement batteries come with two plastic tools for prying the iPod open without causing damage to the case. Hint: Start at the top because there are no "snaps" there along that seam. Use one tool to hold it open, and use the other one to work around the edge, releasing the snaps. It takes a few tries to get the hang of it. Once you have it open, be sure to notice the connector for the headphone jack. Disconnect it carefully, before separating the two sides of the case.

Another minor con is the sensitivity of the touch controls. It is so easy to accidentally touch one of the controls. Thankfully, there is a "Hold" switch that disables the controls. It gets used a lot with this iPod.

A note about compatibility:
This iPod model requires a Mac or PC with a FireWire port. All recent Macs have FireWire, but not all PCs have it. You may be able to connect and sync this iPod using a USB dock connector cable, but this iPod model does not recharge over USB (only over FireWire). You can use a special two-ended cable and wall charger (available at the Apple Store) to get around the FireWire requirement. However, if your computer does not have FireWire, you're better off looking for a 4G or later iPod, which were fully compatible with USB.

10GB of storage is more than anyone ever needs, I like the style of it and the only thing that i do not like about this ipod is that it's a little thick.

have used this model for almost 3 years and i never once had a problem with it. only parted ways with it when i upgraded to the video model.

i love ipods its so much easier to listen to the music i like in my car with out all the extra wires from portable cd player with a car kit or a bunch of cds laying all over my car be sure to get fm transmitter with your ipod for this will deffiantly get another ipod

It is a good MP3 player for the money. But it requires a Y-cable to synch with an Windows PC. The display is too dark to be useful without the backlight, which consumes a lot of battery. The buttons to control the player are very sensitive.

I bought my ipod brand new in 2003 and it has never given me any trouble. The only thing I would say is if you want to use an MP3 player while exercising outdoors, I would suggest considering a mini or nano, as the regular iPod tends to be a bit bulky. Also, if you have a large music library, sometimes 10 gigs isn't quite enough. But overall, I love my iPod and would not considering upgrading as it does everything I need it to do.

I purchased this item to replace one that had burned out. I was pleasantly surprised to find this replacement at a reasonable price, far less expensive than Apple's Ipod replacement offering. The organization that offered the replacement was very professional, prompt and complete. I received the Ipod in great condition as advertised and was back to listening to my favorite tunes within a very short time. This whole process worked very well for me

The seller screwed my on the sale, he stated that it was a 15g but it only holds 1g of music----this is why i dont like ebay,I want to like it but stuff like this happens

I have bought about 6 of the 3rd generation ipods, but because i fix them. i actually do like this ipod because i can easily repair it if it breaks which i have only had to do once, but they hold many features that the new ones don't. i actually own a p.c. and a Mac. and if you keep your ipod in Mac format, you will never get a Virus, if you convert it to P.C. be careful, because the minute you load LIMEWIRE or other mp3 files from free sources you can attract nice viruses that will slow it down and cause you to have to scan them or remove the hard drive and have it replaced if you don't know how to wipe it out and restart it. I have bought others because they are cool to work and the fact that the buttons light up in RED trips me out and is kind of cool i have seen through another site where they change the colors of the buttons and that makes them even cooler. The others i have purchased i have given out as gifts with music and reformatted to run with window to trustworthy people that will not burn them, but overall they are great and if and when i run into these ipods on ebay i jump on them as long as the price is affordable. can't beat it to get an IPOD for less then $20.00, plus on another note you can always use the hard drive to store files and data, and you can always find it on your computer once you classify it as data file. Hope this helps anyone wanting to buy one.

TOOK A LITTLE TIME TO GET IT BUT I WAS HAPPY AND SATIFIED WHEN I RECEIVED IT. THE IPOD WAS IN GREAT CONDITION AND EVERYTHING WAS IN THE BOX AS THE ESELLER DESCRIBE,GOOD STUFF.

I like all of the songs that it holds, but I do not like that it will not charge. I don't like the fact that it came without a charger. I do like that it came with a cover for the iPod, and the headphones. I bought it because I needed it, and I wanted to have something to listen to when I did not have anything to do at school, which is hard to do considering it doesn't have a charger and the only way it charges is with a car charger. Although I appreciate the gift it has some drawbacks. Thank you.

Although I had great communication with this seller and really wanted his iPod, it proved to be more hassle than it was worth. It was not fault on the seller's part, but it took a long time to arrive. When it did, I couldn't get it to work. I live on a small island so took it to CA when we went for the holidays.
Two Apple technicians looked and it, told me it was dead, and one offered to give a 10% discount to me on a new one. Needless to say, after spending almost $160 on it, I was not willing to do that.
Instead, I mailed it back to the seller and bought a new one at CostCo. It took several days for the seller to reimburse my PayPal account, and he did not reimburse me for the expense of sending it back to him.
Consequently, I am not happy about this purchase in any way!

I bought this ipod for my daughter for christmas. I received a really good deal on it. The only thing that i was not expecting was there was some scratches on it but with the case on it you can't tell. All in all it is a great unit and was really a great deal.

i didn't look closely at item during bidding. i thought it was a 4th generation. but i have been pleased with it's performance. i use it for music on my office stereo, so it isn't subjected to motion or dropping. i find it hard to fill 10 gb with songs. i have other with 20 gb and like the click wheel functions better, but only because i had them first

I have been scepticle about buying used ipods on ebay, because of battery issues and what not, but I have been really pleased with my purchase. It just goes to show that if you take care of your stuff and have a good feedback on here that you can be trusted. The guy I bought from was very informative and I ahve had the ipod now for about two months and I am very pleased. I was going to the desert with the military, and didn't want to take my new 60 gig, so I got this one for 50 bucks. It was a steal.

the seller did not state that the older IPOD's need different charging system , which cost me additioanl money

i was a little worried because i have never bought from ebay but i got ipod with in 3 days and i love it and loved how sweet the seller was

because it was the only normal price about the item i was searching . and it is in the good condition . the seller was a good knew about what sells .

Although this iPod has been surpassed in every feature by the newer, more expensive iPods, it is still a wonderful alternative. It is cheaper, can hold just about as many songs, if not more, than some new models, and has the same great sound quality as any mp3 player to date.

I Love these older ipods there so easy to work on and the sound from them is pure gold, there is nothing I don't like about these ipods ,I Bought this after learning how to fix an ipod mini but I like the 20GB better more storage
