Apple iPhone 3G 8GB (Unlocked). (SHOULD I BUY ONE?)
Review created: 06/11/10

To provide a reference for buyers intending to make an educated purchase on the Apple iPhone 3G 8GB (Unlocked).

In a over saturated cell phone market the Apple iPhone has seen the top of the mountain now for >3 years and there is no change in sight.

The retail history of Apple and more specifically the iPhone is astonishing! No other phone (model of phone) on the market has EVER maintained its value quite like the Apple iPhone.

For any interested Smart Phone & PDA buyer I would recommend above all the iPhone (3G, 3GS, or the up and coming iPhone 4) for the following 3 simple reasons:

1). Functionality - These phones cater to ALL needs & levels of technological skill. Whether your an occasional text or caller the iPhone will provide to you all of the necessary features to address your usage; Without being over indulgent. Or perhaps you are not very technologically savy, then the iPhone will leave your mind at ease; the bright visible display, large intuitively descriptive icons and the practically dummy proof step-by-step function details.

* Let this be know EACH AND EVERY Settings button on any iPhone comes with a thorough explanation of what that "mystery" button does. No more hitting switches or changing settings & not knowing what the heck you just pushed.

2). Value - The Apple iPhone unlike any other device on the market is guaranteed to hold its value. If cost is your key then without refute the iPhone (2, 3G, 3GS, or the soon to be released iPhone 4) will be the BEST cell phone investment you'll ever make.

The beauty of the phone is no matter if you purchase the iPhone USED or NEW the value still remains. Resale value is a comfort to buyers within itself; this adds to all of Apples success in being able to sell these devices to such a large group of individuals. No its not that over a billion people in Apples sales regions 'can' afford a relatively expensive device its that the iPhone offers a sense of investment. When choosing a cell phone device hands down the Apple iPhone offers investment qualities like no other electronic on the market.

3). Technology - The reason Apple iPhone's are so popular isn't entirely due to its brand. No other cellphone company has been able to come close enough to create reasonable competition for the iPhone; mainly due to the Apple iPhone having the "total package". The combination of application features, hardware, software and, Apple service is what propels this brand of phone beyond all others.

The iPhone is universal; it was made for YOU it will cater to your needs.

Buy with confidence, make a smart investment and let the market speak for itself; there is no denying the Apple iPhone delivers. Try one and that will be all the proof you need!

Thanks,

eBay Buyers!

  Work Great!!!
Review created: 05/30/10

I have an iPhone 3G for two years and decided to buy one for my sister as an upcoming birthday present. The Ebay seller was great and the phone was also in pretty good shape. The phone arrived almost immediately (within a few days) and I replaced the SIM card with mine and it worked perfectly. I updated the OS to 3.1.3 and jailbreak'ed it to load other none Apple approved apps. Since my sister has AT&T, I don't have to unlock the iPhone for it to work. I should unlock it so that she can use it with local SIM card when she travels oversea but I was too lazy to do it last week. I drove to Los Angeles and gave it to her yesterday and she loved it.

I bought the iPhone 3G instead of the 3GS because of the price. Yes, it's a big slower than the 3GS but for the money w/o an AT&T contract is worth it. I install "cycorder" so that the 3G can record video - a function that the 3GS has that I felt is necessary for the iPhone. My sister turned off the data plan (internet blocking) on her AT&T account so that she doesn't get charge every time she surfs the net or check email on the iPhone, via Wifi. She also use Skype to call out w/o using her AT&T minutes whenever Wifi is available. She has access to Wifi at home and in her office, as well as most McDonalds and Starbucks.

Despite popular belief, she still can send and receive text messages w/o the data plan. However, she can not receive SMS/MMS pix but she has access to email so her friends can always send photo's via email.

  Iphone 3G.
Review created: 07/16/10

i think i made the right choice and buyin the apple iphone 3g. i wanted to be able to use the device that was once the flagship phone for at&t and undertstand what all the buzz was about with the iphone. i absolutely love this phone..im still a droid lover but anyone can easily fall in love with apple OS...so simple and easy for any age. The apps are easy to install and organize....all though it lacks multi-tasking, that was just recently made available in os4 for the 3gs and iphone 4. The apple iphone 3g is a great buy for those who want a smartphone that can do almost anything, and not have to worry about getting someone else's expertise on how to work certain features of the device. Thumbs Up!

  iphone is the real deal

With the iphone 4g coming out, and my wife's birthday right around the corner, I went to Ebay with the unrealistic expectations to find a 3g for under $100.

When the iphone I bid on went over $100, I was discouraged, but was determined to win it in the last minutes. The price jumped up to over $150, but I placed one last bid in the dying seconds in hopes of winning it for under $160. I won, but for $168. I was actually pretty disappointed that I won... I got Ebay punked.

Initial impressions:
However, upon receiving the phone, my mourning turned to dancing. It was in near mint condition, unlocked and jailbroken with ROCK. I popped in my wife's Rogers SIM card and it worked perfectly.

I downloaded a few apps from the istore, but then wisened up and got some Cydia apps (which in my opinion are much better apps... especially the free ones).

The phone works like a normal phone should. The wifi works flawlessly and the reception is good, I could not test the 3g network speeds though because I don't have a data plan. The OS is just a gem, it's hard to believe that a phone OS could operate so smoothly and quickly, the apps are AMAZING. The camera takes much better pictures than any phone I've owned... Unfortunately, the iphone is not mine... fortunately, my wife is happy :)

Other phones?
I've owned windows CE/mobile devices, Palm phones and Blackberries, but the iphone 3g blows them away. I've played around extensively with my friend's Hero (Android), and this "old" 3g blows away that phone too.

What about the 4g?
With the jailbroken apps, you can get video recording on any 2g or 3g, and get multitasking too... The biggest drawback of this phone compared to the 4g is that it has slower network data streaming (which does not matter if you are cheap like me and don't have a data plan), the processor is marginally slower (in practical use), and the screen is not as "extreme".

Conclusion:
If you can a good condition iphone 3g for under $160. Jump on it! (not literally though!)

This is a great phone. Price is reasonable, great applications, and overall quality.

Unlike some phones, this one will last. Very resistant and even though i dropped it several times, aside from scratched back, the phone was in perfect shape. You wont need screen protectors either, had it for over a year now and the screen still doesn't have a scratch on it.

The most convenient part about the iPhone is the abundance of applications. The app store is filled with thousands of applications, both free and paid. Also, you can jailbreak your iPhone and then get all the apps for free (not recommended though).

Another great feature about the iPhone is the fast streaming internet speeds. With an average of 2.5MB/S download and 300KB/S upload speed, you can open almost any website within seconds. Most websites are compatible with the iPhone browser (Safari).

The iPhone is not actually a "touch screen" as it requires heat. Using a pen or any other non heat emitting object will not let you use it. Still a great phone though, there's no clicking that you hear on common touch screen products.

The keyboard is also another great feature. Qwerty keyboard, when phone turned sideways, lets you type a message fast and easily. It also shows the letter you are selecting above your finger to increase accuracy. At first it might be a bit hard to get used to but after a while you'll be able to type fast again.

Overall the iPhone is like a small mac that fits in your pocket. The opportunities are endless. Definitely recommended as a phone if you can afford it. One of the best phones out there.

Simply the best phone. But beware the botched unlock
Review created: 12/28/09

After two and a half years, the Iphone remains at the top of the heap. With its usability, ergonomics, fit and finish and tons of high quality apps a few taps away, none of the Iphone's competitors, even those just recently introduced, have managed to knock it off its throne. In my opinion, they're not even close, nor will they be for a a long time, regardless of Android. On top of that, you can't beat Apple's customer service. They are a breath of fresh air in these days of low-overhead robophone mazes and sweatshop call centers half way around the world.

However, buyers need to be careful with unlocked units. The one I bought had bad wifi. Do your research! It is not easy to unlock this phone. Several things must be taken into consideration, such as the various software revisions of the phone. A bad unlock can have side-effects such as impaired or broken wifi functionality. Also, unlocked phones have limitations. For example, you can't simply upgrade your phone's software using itunes. Doing so would re-lock your phone. On some carriers, such as T-mobile, you won't have 3G. There may be others. The wifi problem was bad enough for me. I was fortunate that Apple had such excellent customer service. They replaced my phone with a new (locked) one, that I decided to keep locked.

The safest bet is to buy a phone that's never been mucked with, even if it means having to deal with SBC...er...AT&T as a service provider. In fact it's so good, at times you even forget you're stuck with SBC.

The good: The Apple iPhone has a stunning display, a sleek design, and an innovative multitouch user interface. Its Safari browser makes for a superb Web surfing experience, and it offers easy-to-use apps. As an iPod, it shines.

The bad: The Apple iPhone has variable call quality and lacks some basic features found in many cell phones, including stereo Bluetooth support and 3G compatibility. Integrated memory is stingy for an iPod, and you have to sync the iPhone to manage music content.

The bottom line: Despite some important missing features, a slow data network, and call quality that doesn't always deliver, the Apple iPhone sets a new benchmark for an integrated cell phone and MP3 player.

Specifications: Band / mode: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 (Quadband) ; Talk time: Up to 480 min ; Combined with: With digital camera / digital player ;

  iPhone 3GS Review
Review created: 06/04/10
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The good: The Apple iPhone 3GS offers critical new features including support for high-speed 3G networks, third-party applications, and expanded e-mail. Its call quality is improved and it continues to deliver an excellent music and video experience.

The bad: The iPhone 3GS continues to lack some basic features that are available on even the simplest cell phone. Battery life was uneven, and the 3G connection tended to be shaky. Also, the e-mail syncing is not without its faults.

The bottom line: The iPhone 3GS delivers on its promises by adding critical features and sharper call quality. The iTunes App Store is pretty amazing, and the 3G support is more than welcome. Critical features still are missing, and the battery depletes quickly under heavy use, but the iPhone 3GS is a big improvement over the original model.

I really like the iphone, i now realize that it is the greatest phone out there and none can top it. To anyone that is going to get an iphone, the second thing i recommend is to get an otterbox case that should be the second thing on your list when you get an iphone trust me it gives you protection if you drop your phone. The only downfall from getting the iphone is that you cannot get insurance so if it breaks you have to buy a new one. Now there is apple care available and mobile available. Mobile is cool, you can actually find your iphone on the computer it will show you wear it is exactly and on what street, plus you can send a text to your phone and make it alarm even if the phone is on silent so that you can hear it. Iphone is the best phone.

  Iphone 3G 8GB chilean review
Review created: 01/01/10
20 of 23 people found this review helpful.

Hi im from Chile and I bought this phone unlocked. I think it is a great phone and a awesome music player. Maybe is the most famous phone ever. But somethings I dont like it. The battery it doesnt last longer. I have a Ipod touch and is the same thing. I thinks the screen is too big and it needs to much battery soo if you talk to much, if you used to much the email and also add to listed music the battery only will last a days and not 24 hours, maybe 12 or 14 hours, no more than this so bring your charger with you all the time.

The second thins is the email push system. I have also a Blackberry 8900 and if you work a lot sending and receiving mails maybe this is not the best phone to do this because is to slow compared to a blackberry. The blackberry I this is faster than a PC to received the mail because when im connected to msn and I received a mail the blackberry gets it first. This is not the case with the Iphone. The push system of the Iphone is 15min minimun or manual push so the phones ckeck your mail every 15min and if you work a lot with email this is not good if you need a real time email checking.

I thinks this are the two issiues I dont like about the iphone. Everything else is awesome. If you want to install a lot of programs, keep everything manage have a loooot of music, use skype, have wifi and the best the touch screen this is the phone for you.

But if you are into music in your smartphone try to buy a 16Gb version because the 8 gigas is to small to put all your music, podcast and audiobooks.

thanks for reading.

  Greatest gadget ever!
Review created: 06/01/10

Before 3G I used the first iPhone model 2G, so I thought that it's no reason to change the device to the new version. Also I never love the 3G plastic body. But my 2G was watter demaged :(. So I decide to upgrate to the second version, 3G. It's really good phone. I were him in the case so it's doesn't scratch the back side and always wear the screen protector so it's still seems like the new one. I am ready to sell it BTW! Text me if needed. Thanks!

Apple iPhone 3G 8 GB Black

I bought this 3G iphone because it's much cheaper compare to 3GS but to me there are no major differences between 3G and 3GS. I like the way Apple give this phone a clean and professional look. And of course the nonnegotiable multi-touch screen of iphone is like no other. This iPhone also gives you the opportunity to interact with literally tons of fun and useful applications. Mailing, Texting, Surfing web, listening to music has never been easier. However, the battery always run out on me, I would suggest you to get a car charger together with the phone. Enjoy!

Would be great if I could use it...
Review created: 03/05/10

I bought it because I wanted an iPhone to use with access to the internet and didn't exactly need a new one. So I purchased this one, because it claimed to be in "mint condition" and unlocked. I like in another country so it was important that I purchased an unlocked phone to be able to use with any SIM. But the phone is locked to all SIMS, even the one carrier in the country that I live in. It has internet service on the phone, but is unable to be used as a phone, only a fun electronic "gadget", which was NOT what I was looking for.

This leads me to believe that the phone that I purchased, was PROBABLY a stolen phone, and probably had the system blocked though the serial number after being stolen. I am very disappointed in this product, because I spent over $400 on a new phone, that does not work.

I have always been careful when purchasing items through ebay, but now will be even more weary about it.

This phone came unlocked and jailbreaked, OS 3.1.2 modem firmware 05.11.07. Meaning I can slot in any sim card and download free app from cydia.
Best smartphone i ever have. I used Dopod and HP612C before this.
I own iPhone 2G, compare with iPhone 2G, it is almost the same in term of wifi speed. But when on 3G Sim card this iPhone 3G give much faster speed when you are downloading heavy graphic pages.
I still prefer 2G model if i don't browse that offen.

Phone? Hardly! It's various functions puts this bad boy in a league of it's own. THE phone to get. Given it's strikingly smooth touch screen sensitivity and abundant apps, you can assure that once you've entered the world of "Apple", you simply don't go back. I bought another Iphone here on ebay because my originally purchased one was stolen- like I said, very intriguing phone. Although you will get all you'd expect from a refurbished, or used, Iphone, you must also expect that because it is not brand spanking new, that it will have some niches and scratches. Accept this, and your Iphone will settle your ear's, and finger's, anxiety. Long live the Iphone!

  Apple iPhone 3G (refurbished) (AT&T)
Review created: 04/08/09

This is without a doubt the best phone that I have ever owned. It is amazing what you can do with this phone and the thousands of apps that are available. The only drawback is the battery only last for a little over a day so you just have to charge it every night. It is full of features and the only missing ones are the camera does not have a flash and it does not offer the ability to take video. But there are so many things you can do that you could not even imagine on an ordinary cell phone. The 3G network is very fast and the device automatically seeks out wifi hot spots for even faster downloads. The touch device takes a little getting used to but you get faster and faster the more you use it. It is a great way to stay in touch. The extra $30 AT&T charges for the unlimited data seemed a little high especially since it utilizes WiFi as much as possible. It does not come with any cases, covers, nothing but a charger and data cable. You will need to purchase some type of screen cover and I decided on a rubber case to protect the unit in case it should fall. It is a little pricey but well worth it for all it can do. I would recommend it to anyone except those who are technically challenged. Apple has done a good job of updating the device and keeping it current. It took a little navigating to understand iTunes and getting your pictures, tunes, ringtones, etc downloaded to the device. Once you get the hang of it everything is pretty smooth. I wish I had the capability to change the tones used for mail and appointments but maybe that will be in the next software release.

Differences between 3G iPhone and 2G iPhone
Review created: 03/10/09
17 of 18 people found this review helpful.

Today I had the pleasure of reviewing and comparing it with my own first generation iPhone. So now I’m here to give you the low down between the two, and what I like better about each.

The Look and Feel

My iPhone has the smooth metal finish with the black strip on the bottom. The front has a shinny metal bezel which ends around the screen. The buttons are all constructed on plastic and move very easily. The earpiece is back with a black plastic, and the bottom speakers/speakerphone is hidden behind plastic mesh. The headphone jack, is unfortunately recessed.

The iPhone 3G has a smooth glass black finish (also available in white). This finish runs unbrokenall around the 3G, and ends in the same place as mine with the shiny metal bezel. All the buttons on the 3G are now constructed with shiny metal (except the home button). This gives them a thicker feel over the cheap feel of the iPhone’s plastic buttons. Instead of a black finish behind the ear piece, there is now a silver perforated mesh. This same mesh is used for the bottom speakers/speaker phone. A new aspect on the bottom side of the 3G is the inclusion of two screws, which could presumably be used to open the case. The second greatest difference is the new inclusion of a no-recessed headphone jack.

The main difference between the interior and exterior of the iPhone and the iPhone 3G, is of course the backside casing. Another key difference is the shape of the back of the two phones. My iPhone is flat across the backside, with rounding near the edges. On the 3G, this rounding much more pronounced as it take on the form of a drawn out dome that tapers near the edges. The rounded back of the 3G also extends out further than that of the original iPhone. The iPhone 3G is also slightly wider than the original iPhone, though not enough to notice. The screen of the iPhone 3G is also slightly warmer than the original, as was mentioned on the news a few weeks ago.

The Features

The difference in features between the iPhone and the iPhone 3G are not large. The 3g does have GPS, and the capability to download data at higher speeds over the 3G network. After testing the GPS, I found it to be very accurate, finding our location within a matter of seconds. Comparing this to the cellphone tower triangulation on the original iPhone, the 3G is clearly more precise.
The 3G network is much faster than the 2G. The 3G showed less bars, whereas my 2G showed full bars. Turning off 3G showed the same results as my iPhone on the 3G. The 3G was faster downloading App’s and browsing the internet.

Other than the GPS and the 3G network, there is no real difference between the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G as features go.

Overall comparison

Comparing the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G side by side, it is obvious that the iPhone 3G wins as far as new hardware goes. The only thing that I dislike about the 3G is the black backing. I much prefer the aluminum backing on my 2G iPhone. The other thing I dislike about the 3G is it’s more expensive data plan and lack of included text messaging. I don’t want to pay $15 more dollars a month than already do, so I think for now I will be keeping my iPhone. I imagine I will wait until the next iteration of the iPhone is out to trade my 2G in.

  Wonderful Full Feature Phone
Review created: 06/07/10

I have been an AT&T customer for many years now and I have been looking at the iPhone since it first came out. I didn't want to sign another 2 year contract so buying a used iPhone made sense. I the iPhone has so many features, I love being able to get internet and e-mail on the road and the GPS map feature is the best. The phone has great clarity and I haven't lost a call yet. There are thousands of apps for everything you can think of. The only down side to this phone is it does not work with flash player, so surfing some web site is impossible.

I love my iphone. It’s the best phone I’ve ever had and I never wanna get rid of it. I got my from gsmallover.com and it came fully unlocked in 3 days! I love the easy touch screen and all options for different apps. Iphone definitely beats blackberry in my opinion.
