Not really music from the movie
Review created: 07/31/09

A lot of extraneous drivel on this CD- dialog from the movie, crappy music that was popular at the time of the mission, etc. Very little James Horner stuff- and unfortunately every time I listen to one of his compositions I hear the music from Titanic. I don't know why I blew my money on this thing.

Great movie - real good soundtrack. Plus, it has bits of dialogue from the movie between songs. Nice addition to the collection. Nice for those with an interest in our space program. Enjoy !

  Apollo 13 Soundtrack

Well, the item took a bit longer to ship than I had hoped for. Kinda beat the purpose of getting express shipping in the first place, but it got here quickly once it was sent. It also came with the case rather damaged, but I'm pretty sure that was from shipping rather than the sender. In all, quality was very good and I'm satisfied with the purchase.

"It's been a privilege..." listening to this outstanding soundtrack album from Apollo 13
Review created: 08/08/04

Pros:
Everything: Horner's orchestral score + songs from the era

Cons:
None.

Although composer James Horner may be better known for his Academy Award-winning score to James Cameron's Titanic, he has written music for other very successful films in a variety of genres, including Star Trek II, Star Trek III, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, Battle Beyond the Stars, and the Ron Howard-directed, fact-based Apollo 13. MCA's Apollo 13: Music From the Motion Picture showcases a mix of original compositions by Horner and songs from the Apollo Program era (1960s-1972), with selected bits of dialogue from the movie (performed by Tom Hanks, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, and...

Soundtrack/ APOLLO 13: Music with which to go sailing to the stars
Review created: 02/20/01
by: Ed.Williamson -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Incredibly beautiful core score mixed with pop 70's music and script sound bites.

Cons:
Some of the 70's pop stuff is a little thin.

The SOUNDTRACK from the movie APOLLO 13, starring Tom Hanks The other night a late-night talk show host was interviewing actor Tom Hanks and asking him about the roles he'd played in the years past and those he wouldn't mind playing again. Almost as an aside, in a stream of answers, a half-smiling Hanks let this slip out: "I'd play an astronaut in a role in a movie any time." There is a good reason for that comment from the inner man that is the elusive Tom Hanks. Tom has played many different kinds of roles, but one of his very best was as Apollo 13 Mission Commander Jim Lovell as Jim and...

  Spirit in the Sky

Pros:
Album allows you to relive the movie every time, great selection of songs of the time

Cons:
Not Horner's best score, may not be everybody's kind of music.

"Failure is not an option" With James Horner, failure never seems to be an option now, does it? This is probably one of the most well compiled and produced soundtracks I have seen in a long time. The album tracks the progress of the film not only through Horner's score, but through songs of the times and also dialogue from the film- with the end result of making you relive the film every time you listen to the album. Starting with a short title and the legendary Neil Armstrong/Walter Cronkite exchange of "One small step.." and ending with Tom Hanks' Jim Lowell saying "Gentlemen, it's been a...

Everything you want in a Soundtrack
Review created: 01/25/00
by: tlin77 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
everything about it (instrumental, dialogue, songs)

Cons:
none at all

'Apollo 13' is one of my favorite movies of all time. One of the reasons why is because it features such an incredible soundtrack. You can break down the soundtrack to 'Apollo 13' into three parts. One part is the instrumental score composed by James Horner, one part is some of the key dialogue from the movie, and the last part is some of the music featured in the movie. I titled this review as 'Everything you want in a Soundtrack' because it's a common event, you watch a movie, love the music, buy the soundtrack, and find something missing. I wouldn't have minded if the soundtrack was just...

  James Horner does it again!!!!!
Review created: 05/21/00
by: Todd1976Harvey -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
James Horner thats all I have to say

Cons:
Oldies and dialoge from movie

Horner gives us Soundtrack freaks another great one, all though there is sound clips from the movie in it before most of all the songs, it is still great. Horner puts his talented style of music composition in this. It has a patriodic sound and an edge of your seat thrill to it. The only really bad thing about the cd is the use of oldies that are probably the first 10 songs on this soundtrack. Don't get me wrong I enjoy oldies but I hate haveing to skip to the orchestration part of the cd. Oh also the songs aren't numbered on the case to where you can find them easily. You kind of have to...
