Album Notes Personnel: Frank Zappa, Ike Willis, Warren Cucurrullo (vocals, guitar); Denny Walley (guitar); Peter Wolf, Tommy Mars (keyboards, synthesizers); Arthur Barrow (bass); Vinnie Colaiuta (drums). Recorded live in Paris, France on February 24, 1979. This release features Frank and company live in Paris. The time period of the concert is not made clear, but by the song selection and band line-up, it appears to be from the '80s. This is part of the catalog of material, previously available only on bootleg, now being made available by Rhino, with the late Zappa's blessing. The sound quality is quite superb. The era represented features lots of inspired guitar soloing, quirky, tinkly percussion, odd effects at odd times, sarcastic soul/R&B-tinged vocals, flashy synthesizer playing and Zappa taking lyrical aim at everything silly and shallow in our world. The jazz side of his music is toned down here--this is Zappa rockin' out. But he doesn't neglect his past '60s/70s classics: "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" and "Peaches En Regalia" are present. For those smitten with late-period Zappa, this 2-CD set will keep you busy--and happy--for a good long while.
