This text by British actor, Vanessa Redgrave, is from a series, "Actors on Shakespeare," of fairly brief books by actors who've successfully performed Shakespeare's plays. Redgrave is one among only 16 actor's who've won the "triple crown" of acting awards, which includes Oscar, Tony & Emmy. But, if international awards were to be included Vanessa Redgrave's crown would be mighty jewel studded! Thus, the writer-actor is a credible authority on the topic.
Redgrave writes from her own experience of performing Shakespeare's "Antony & Cleopatra" on stage. (Dame Elizabeth Taylor & Sir Richard Burton are among those who have performed this play on film).
Redgrave writes about the social value of the play in general. How it has modern significance. Her introduction provides a viewpoint of Shakespeare's play. Most pointly, Vanessa Redgrave conveys a very interesting perspective of Cleopatra~
