Good but could be a LOT better

This was my first sweetheart book. It is dog-eared and I have loved it and cursed it, sometimes in the same breath. Nick Snider made a good try with this first book. I think that he got a bit over excited with it and did not do a very good job of proofing it. Many of the plates are so crammed with pins that you can't tell what they are. Some pins are photographed upside down. I know of one plate that was printed in reverse. International sweethearts and war relief are mixed in with US sweethearts. It can be very confusing for a new collector. Once you get a bit of experience collecting, you will be able to use this book as a good reference, but certainly not the gospel. His Black Book is much better. Get both, they will help any collector. I wish with the red book, he would have had more of an honest title. It should be "Antique Sweetheart Jewelry and a Whole lot of other stuff that is not Sweetheart Jewelry". Once you get the book you will understand. His black book is entitled "Sweetheart Jewelry and Collectibles", much more honest a title.
