Album Notes Solo performer: Chris Smither (vocals, guitar). Recorded at Soundtorack Studios, Boston, Massachusetts on December 28 & 29, 1989. Includes liner notes by Chris Smithers. Like IT AIN'T EASY, this album finds Smither performing solo, accompanied only by his own fleet-fingered, bluesy guitar work. The difference here is that he's performing live in front of a small but appreciative studio audience, and the energizing effect of the crowd on his performance is audible. The song selection is a mix of covers (Dylan's "Wake of the Flood," which Smither steals for his own, Randy Newman's "Have You Seen My Baby") and his own songs, many from his early-'70s recordings ("The evanescent "I Got Mine," the ribald, bluesy "Love You Like A Man," made popular by Bonnie Raitt). As always, Smither comes across as an old, wise soul, whose sagacity is earned from untold hard times. His blues sound undeniably real, as does the life-affirming persistence with which he seems to see them through. ANOTHER WAY TO FIND YOU is one of Smither's finest albums.
