Album Notes Personnel: David Crosby, Graham Nash (vocals, guitar). Recorded at the Dorothy Chandler Music Center, Los Angeles, California on October 10, 1971. Includes liner notes by Steve Silberman. One wonders how the now-clean and sober David Crosby feels about the not-entirely-subtle album title, not to mention the pointedly casual mentions of drug use in the liner notes. Regardless, this 1971 acoustic live set is one of the high points (all puns intended) in either Crosby's or Graham Nash's solo (as in non-CSNY, or Byrds, or Hollies) catalogues. The audience banter, whether drug-addled or not, is genuinely amusing, and the duo's harmonies are outstanding. Without Stephen Stills' steely bray in get in the way, Crosby and Nash's lighter-than-air vocal blend gets magical at times. Focusing mostly on tracks which appeared on the first two CSN(&Y) albums, Crosby and Nash sing and play with evident ease and abundant good humor. It won't change your mind if you're not a fan, but it's an enjoyable time if you are.
Editorial Reviews This live 1971 acoustic set confirms that David Crosby and Graham Nash have always been the key ingredients of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's harmonic blend....the pair also indulge in some of the spaciest patter this side of Cheech & Chong... - Rating: B Entertainment Weekly (02/06/1998)
