Animal Logic (The First Album)

So here are the artists. Stanley Clarke! Stewart Copeland! Pretty well-known dudes, eh? And boy can you hear that bass!. But y'know what? It's the singer, the almost-unknown Deborah Holland, that "makes" the album. (Same thing for Animal Logic II, their cleverly-named second and last album.) I love her voice! I love what she does with tonal twists - whenever you think you know what's next, she changes to some minor pitch or whatever that makes it unexpected and somehow personal.
I only later found out that she's part of the Wendy Waldman crowd, or at least performs live with her. (Waldman needs a bigger fan club, too.) But Holland is truly a novel talent. She has a couple of solo albums now, and they're so, well, HER.
Animal Logic created some very nice tunes. My favorites on this album are Winds Of Santa Ana and Firing The Sunset Gun. Interesting themes as well as good music. Go, Deborah!
