Animal Crossing: Wild World
A review by baohua2006

The orignal Animal Crossing was a fun game. You had lots of freedom and wasn't limited by gameplay time - you set your own pace. It had such a great replay value that it lasted years for some people.

Wild World is true to the original. All the concepts are intact, but it adds many more. The most signifigant is the excellent multiplayer features. Connecting to friends is very easy, simply a few taps of the stylus will allow you to visit a town on the other side of the world. You can now get together with a few friends and visit each other's towns through wireless LAN.

The gameplay is also very polished. There are more items to collect than in the original, and it feels like a whole new experience. The animal neighbors are extremely funny at times, although they aren't too smart. Multiplayer is where this game really shines. The real time play is great - you can hold fishing competitions, you can hold a scavenger hunt. You can even make up a game like tag - it plays flawlessly. A problem here is that only 4 people can be in one town at the same time, and only two people are allowed in a building at the same time. Also, be careful of who you give out your friend codes to. Vandals can come to your town and chop down all your trees.

Stylus driven gameplay makes this game really innovative. It's finally a game that you can play with just the stylus - no buttons needed. Some may find the buttons more comfortable, but for the rest of us, this is heaven. The on screen keyboards type very fast, and control is much better than what it was on the Gamecube.

The graphics are on par for a DS game. There aren't any special effects, but the graphics are just right for this type of game - the outdoor environments are excellent and the water looks great. The numerous items in the game are simply awesome inside your house. Your animal neighbors have the effect that the developers intended them to have. They're cartoonish and cute. The graphics look almost like what they did on the Gamecube. They're just limited by the small screen of the DS.

Animal Crossing Wild World has decent sound and music. The sound is just right - there's a sound effect for almost everything. You can even hear your own footsteps. The music gets repetitive, though - the same track repeats over and over again just like it did in the Gamecube version. But overall, the developers did a nice job.

Overall Breakdown:

Gameplay - 4.5/5
The single player is very similar to the original. Multiplayer is where this game shines. It's just so dang fun to chat with your friends and hold contests.

Control - 5/5
Stylus driven controls make for some smooth gameplay. Animal Crossing Wild World deserves a perfect score for controls.

Graphics - 4/5
The graphics aren't anything great, but they're pretty good for a DS game. Animal Crossing Wild World is okay graphically, but don't expect to be staring at the screen because of graphics.

Sound and Music - 4/5
The music is just a bit repetitive, but the sound is great. ACWW deserves a 4/5 in this field.

Lasting Appeal - 5/5
This game will last you months. You'll obsess over collecting items, expanding your house, and making your town perfect. Animal Crossing Wild World will be in your DS for a very long time.

Overall - 5/5

  Welcome to a time waster

Man, sometimes I wish that I never laid my hands on the Gamecube version. I bought it years ago when I had pneumonia and then I was hooked. I'm an adult and I couldn't wait for this to be released! The wi-fi communication is the best aspect of the game. I frequently play with a friend in Minnesota while I live in Southern California. I can even play with my little sister who lives with my parents.

Very good game. Welcome to your new life. I wonder if Nooks is open...

Addiction to the Wacky World of Animal Crossing
Review created: 01/29/06
9 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Having run the full spectrum of Animal Crossing for the Game cube not to mention getting all the e-reader cards, accessories to play additional games on the Game boy with Animal Crossing, the addiction had to run its full course eventually. Cross over into DS mode, finally its here!
This is truly a solid game to entertain you nonstop for hours. Kids, moms, dads, even grandma and grandpa plays and now with the addition of the wi-fi you really can’t put it down. It has become one of Nintendo number one sellers of the year to put them on the top of the market in sales over everyone else! What a game. It reaches a broader audience that other game makers have not targeted before. Cute and cuddly has a grassroots audience that no one has woke up until Nintendo came along. I know I never played any games until the first Animal Crossing game and I was hooked I will buy more. If they make em and make em good!
The game has good use of both screens and stylus. The interaction is easy and additive. The DS itself is easy to handle I was at first worried how I would be with holding that for a long period of time but no problem. It’s easier than writing checks. I find I do need to get a stronger pair of bifocals however!
Strong little game, I believe you will get your moneys worth out of this one. Excellent!

  All those little details

It's amazing all the things you can do in Animal Crossing Wild World. There's so many tiny little details and tidbits that just add to the excitement.
I recently bought the Animal Crossing Wild World Strategy Guide and there were hundreds of types of furniture and still more to come! Through Wi-Fi on certain days, Nintendo will send you newly created promotional objects for new games for the DS.
I love designing my own clothes and catching my own bugs. I can't wait for Tom Nook's shop to keep growing! I want to be able to cut and dye my hair! So many things to look forward to!
All in all, a great game, and a must have.

I love Animal Crossing Wild World for Nintendo DS. There are some differences from the GameCube version that make it worthwhile getting even if you've played GC before. There are different fish and bugs for example. I love designing the clothes that can be sold in the shop and seeing my "neighbors" wearing them. The house is bigger (when you complete it) than in the GC version, too. All in all, this game is hours of fun and it's a nice soothing game so you don't have to worry about your pulse racing like you're trying to kill Bowser in the Mario games. I'm a 46 year old woman and this game is suitable for all ages.

This is a FAVORITE 4 DS; JUST as good as the original!

This game is one of my favorite! To begin, you answer a few questions to determine your character’s look. Then you move into a house, get a job, and after that it’s all up to you! You can collect fruit, buy furniture for your house, or just go fishing! You can also upgrade your house, talk to the animal townsfolk, or create clothes patterns.

This game is awesome. If you played Animal Crossing on the GameCube, be prepared to be blown away. I've been playing this game for the past year and there are still things that happen that suprise me. Most important, to enjoy this game read up on some of the walkthroughs or guides because things can happen that you'll never know about unless you make them happen.

In this game you can collect just about anything, items, clothes, hats, music, you can even breed flowers to make new and unique variations. You can totally customize your house with wallpaper and carpets and hundreds of different items of furniture; but unlike the original GameCube verison, in Wild World you can even customize your town! I've seen totally urban themes, with roads and sidewalks!

You can do anything in this town, fish, gather fruit, garden, catch bugs, dig for fossils, even design your own constellations, and that's not all, you can visit other people's towns via wi-fi! You can exchange fruits that may not be available in your town, ples pick up some design ideas!

All in all, this is the most fantastic game I've ever played (and at 40, I've played quite a few) I give Animal Crossing: Wild World my highest recommendation!

I decided to buy this game because I love the Animal Crossing for Game Cube. This one has new furniture, carpets, clothes. I love the fact that you can play online with Nintendo's wi-fi system as well as visit friends towns while they are playing (if you have friend code). I also like that it is portable, so you can play anywhere. I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes playing video games but doesn't like the winning/losing aspect. Pure, innocent fun!

My 8 year old got this as a birthday gift with her own money. She LOVES it. I like it because it is the perfect toy to take away when she is sassy ;-). She enjoys it more than the DOGS game (which she wanted first.) She would give the game an excellent rating, while I would not, simply because it involves screen time.....

A Whole New World In the Palm of Your Hand

Animal Crossing first caught my eye on the GameCube and when I heard it was coming out on the DS I was very excited. Added bonus that it's release day was ON my birthday - thank you Nintendo. The fact that DS is Wi-Fi made the multiplayer much more accessable than having to borrow a friends memory card on the gamecube. The controls on the DS are very comfortable and natrual although it is a littler harder to pull weeds behind a tree than the gamecube version, but easier to compose letters to the townsfolk thanks to the touch screen. It will keep you entertained for quite a while since there are season and holiday specific events. Whatever you do... DON'T turn off the power before saving.

This game is excellent for gamers of all ages. I bought a second copy so my 8 year old will stop borrowing mine, plus now we can connect and visit each other's towns.

There isn't much of a plot, but just maintaining my town and neighbors is a blast. It's also given my 8 year old help with reading, and she enjoys reading the various messages.

Highly recommend! Probably the one game we've played consistently for the past year, and still enjoying it.

For all the fans of the Original Animal Crossing for GC, you will like this game, the gameplay is similar, pay off your debt to Nook, collect furniture, clothing, and now even hats and accessories, and even meet new friends, animal and human. Thanks to Wi-Fi you can now go to or invite people to your town that live halfway across the world. The gameplay is good, and the graphics are good for a DS game, a must buy.

Good but you need the user's guide

Animal Crossing has a major strength and weakness. The strength is this is there are no goals to the game, no levels to attain, no pricesses to rescue. You and/or your friends set the agenda. This also is the weakness.

In the beginning you must get established in your community. You will need the Official DS Guide. The enclosed instruction booklet is not of much help.

I was drawn to this game because it was more family oriented than the SIMS. There is not so much obsession/maintenance with bodily functions. Whether you are 6 or 600 you can enjoy this game. Like other Nintendo games (Nintendogs) there are treasures to find and contests to enter. Only if you want to though.

What I didn't like was the fact that you have to buy the Official Guide ($10-$14 depending where you go) to navigate. The instruction booklet was not helpful.

I love this game and taking it mobile on the DS is a dream come true. Takes a little getting used to the way the screen scrolls away from you as you walk but fabulous colors and resolution make it pure eye-candy. The best improvement is the save feature which you can use anywhere. No more nasty mole!

  Must have Game.
Review created: 09/06/06
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

With its many activities, town-like atmosphere, and overall sense of social concept, Wild World brings plenty to the table. While the game is more of a pick up and play in short bursts type game, there is still plenty to enjoy. Whether it be collecting items, or decorating your own home, this game allows for some intuitive designs and stress free atmosphere. Animal Crossing Wild World is the perfect game to play after a long day of work or weeks of cramming for that midterm. Regardless of what stresses your life brings, you can lose yourself in the world of Animal Crossing, and for a minute you will enter a world that feels like paradise. Even with some of its issues, it is hard not to recommend a game with such a unique approach to life.

Pros
+ An enriched atmosphere
+ Plenty of furniture to decorate your home
+ Meeting new friends
+ Earning money to pay off mortgage and other necessities.
+ Pleasant soundtrack
+ Art design
+ Stress free atmosphere

Cons
- Town is a bit small
- Not a kind of game where you can play for a long period of time

I bought this game a couple days ago and I find it to be really interesting. I never played the Animal Crossing for gamecube but the one for Ds is very fun. It can get a little boring if you play it for more than like 2 hours a day as the game does run on the internal clock of the Ds and therefore the game progresses slowly. It is a very unique game and has been an awsome experience for me so far. I highly recommend it if you are a gamer that doesnt go overkill on a game all at once. To get the greatest value from this game you have to experience it over a long period of time. My rating is a 4/5
