Arguably KMFDM's finest and most focused outing, 1993's ANGST features the German industrial-rock ensemble in the midst of a furious early-'90s stride. On these aggressive, dance-floor-ready tracks, musical mastermind Sascha Konietzko hones the band's already-formidable sonic attack, as best revealed on "A Drug Against War," a fast and punishingly heavy single that became a minor alternative hit and reinforced the group's kinship to former Wax Trax! labelmates Ministry. Other highlights of the record include the fierce "Light," with its distinctively razor-sharp guitar lines, and the pounding, tongue-in-cheek "Sucks." Although it's nearly matched by its follow-up, NIHIL, most fans will attest to ANGST's status as the uber-KMFDM album.
