For those who like reading entertaining books, Angels & Demons is for you! This book is full of suspense and action. The best part about the book is that any historical or landmark fact you read is true (according to Brown). You are left riveted and in suspense as you follow the plot. Brown puts together the plot and leaves a trail of clues that even Sherlock Holmes would be proud of!

As a prequel to The Da Vinci Code, it mirrors the style exactly. If you haven't read Angels and Demons and you enjoy The Da Vinci Code, then this book is a must read! It's a fast read and exciting ride as you follow the book from cover to cover.

Dan Brown's Angels and Demons is a fast-paced detective drama that combines science, art, religion, and murder.

Harvard symbology professor Robert Langdon is the protagonist who finds himself at a Swiss nuclear research facility. It seems a scientist has been murdered and the infamous Illuminati society is somehow involved. Some antimatter has been taken, and Langdon joins the scientist's daughter, Vittoria, on a mad dash through some of Rome's most famous landmarks, in an effort to find it before the Vatican is leveled.

I liked the plot of Angels and Demons and found much of middle section wonderfully absorbing and tense, as Robert and Vittoria decipher ancient clues and race from place to place in Rome, fast on the heels of a murderer. The beginning of the book, which discusses antimatter, was slow-going for me and the conclusion is way over the top in terms of realism. The timeline was a major stumbling block: Being able to travel great distances across Rome in minutes (even seconds) took away some credibility for me.

In spite of the weaknesses, Angels and Demons is very exciting and at times, even spine-tingling. If you have been to Rome, you will enjoy revisiting the city in this book. You'll also learn about the inner workings of the Vatican, and about the Illuminati, which I found fascinating. This is also my favorite of Dan Brown's Collection.

  Great Book - MUST READ

I read Da Vinci Code first and then picked up Angels and Demons. I must say I was not disappointed. Just another great book by Dan Brown.

Its a prequel to the Da Vinci Code but you don't have to read the books in order - I didn't and thoroughly enjoyed both.

This book, similar to the Da Vinci Code, is a highly suspenseful religious thriller. And when I mean suspenseful - you can't put the book down - you keep wondering what is going to happen in the next chapter - just captivating - its like watching a great movie.

I found the ending in this book to be better than the Da Vinci Code purely b/c of its suspense factor and surprise twists - but I will give Dan Brown his due again for doing his research to make this fiction standout and seem that he is telling a real story. Such detail that makes you wonder could it be real, knowing well that it isn't.

Just a great book that you must read, you will NOT be disappointed!

Excellent read. Catches you at the beginning and never lets you down. One part in the end was a little far-fetched, but then its a novel, right? Language is moderate, but not overly offensive. I would recommend this book for book clubs.

This book is the actual prequel to "The Da Vinci Code" and it is spectacular. From the very beginning you are hard-pressed to put the book down and when its over you definitely want more. If you read the "Da Vinci Code" I highly recommend this one and if you haven't this is THE place to start on your "Dan Brown" quest.

This book will take you on one! Angels & Demons was the first Dan Brown novel that I read and I was captivated from the first sentence to the last word. This is a riveting thriller that is action-packed with suspense, murder, and mayhem that threatens to erupt on the eve of the new pope’s coronation. Plus, it is filled with factual information regarding historical landmarks and the Catholic Church, while intertwining science and religion. Put this book on your “must-read” list!

Riveting and Suspenseful ... Very Highly Recommended!

I was introduced to Dan Brown through the mesmerizing THE DA VINCI CODE. I loved it and decided to read his previous works and I just finished reading ANGELS AND DEMONS. Brown's writing is extremely captivating and informative. You will find it hard to put this book down before reading the very last page of it.

If you like religious thrillers, I highly recommend you read this book. Similar to The Da Vinci Code, this book deals with a secret brotherhood, religion, mad authoritative figures, dark assassin, and of course, Robert Langdon, Harvard's fictional professor of Religious Symbology (and one of my favorite characters.)

I have learned a whole lot about the Vatican and numerous other things from Brown's impressive and extensive research with which this book is rife. There is plenty of information in this book it will definitely satisfy your need for knowledge in both science and religion.

In a nutshell, Angels and Demons is another well-researched, intensely-entertaining and highly-riveting religious thriller written by one outstanding author. Do yourself a favor and read this book. Do it for the religious spirit in you; do it for the skeptical one as well.

I loved this book! I personally thought it was better than the Da Vinci Code because it seemed to have more action! I grew up Catholic and reading about different traditions and symbols of the church was quite interesting to me. It also opens your eyes to some of the things about religion that we have just been told what to believe!

Great book, definately worth reading!

This book is very similar in speed and format as the Da Vinci Code - it starts off fast and takes place in the course of a day. More scientific in base than his later book which had a religious focus.

I found it darker than the Da Vinci Code - if you find the death of religious leaders disturbing (even in fiction) then this book isn't for you.

Dan Brown has got to be one of the best writers out there. I started with The DaVinci Code after I took a trip to Rome, and his book read so fast that in just a few days I was done and moving onto this one. Angels & Demons is a great prequel to The DaVinci Code. It's so fast paced and exilerating that you will never want to put it down until you're done.

I read the Da Vinci Code before I read this book and I was nervous I wouldn't like it as well. I was wrong! This book was BETTER! Still rich in history and religious overtones it had far more action and fast pace. I was shocked and amazed at how far back the Organized Catholic Church goes and at how much history the Catholic Church preserves!! This book drags you all over Europe on a fantastic artistic feast for the eyes as you can see in your mind. It made me want to go and see some of these artistic marvels in person. There a couple of twists that left me guessing to the end and I found out I guessed wrong. Fantastic storyline. Could not put down until finished. Truly talented writer in the art of story telling!

  AWSOME BOOK! Angels & Demons

To be honest, I really did not know what I was getting into, just by the title of this book. I think the title is a little misleading, because it seemed to give the impression the story was more "supernatural". i was very pleasantly surprised. in fact, i'll rate this book as one of the best I have ever read. the characters just seem to come alive on the pages, and it is hard to put the book down. The twists and turns that Dan Brown makes while the dangerous canister is being sought are just amazing. This book uses so much religous history PLUS the "who-done-it" angle, it is a MUST read. I rate this book actually better than The DaVinci Code which is also an awsome book.

Loved this book.. as well as all his other books. I would suggest reading it. Lots of twists and turns makes for a book hard to put down. I have a hard time staying interested in books, so I normally only read half of them and then quit reading them. I don't have this issue with any of Dan Brown's books

  Great Writer! Great Story

I personally have not read a novel/book in over 8 years as I often find I could not make the time nor been able to finish a book without falling asleep. That was before I came upon Dan Brown.

He to me is a prolific writer which captures your imagination and his literary style makes it easy to keep your fingers moving/gliding through the pages. I have read all his books and am waiting anxiously for the his next release coming soon. Yes not all his books were of equal standing, but for a writer to do the amount of research he does and variety of topics he covers is staggering.

You cannot go wrong with a Dan Brown book.....while waiting for his next novel I've switched to Greg Iles another great writer.

cheers

Better than The Da Vinci Code!
Review created: 09/05/06

1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I read The Da Vinci Code because of all of the attention it was getting. I truly enjoyed that book and went on to read Dan Brown's other books.
Angels & Demons was the 2nd book by Dan Brown that I read and I found the book to be far more interesting, with better character development, more descriptive text and more suspense.
The story is wildly creative and the use of ambigrams (words that appear the same whether read right-side-up or up-side-down), the Illuminati (an ancient secret society), the conclave (the Catholic process of selecting a new Pope), humanity (including members of clergy) at it's best and worst, all added something that can only be described as superbly imaginative.
Say what you will about the "clatter" surrounding The Da Vinci Code, but this book was captivating to the point that even that which would seem almost impossible was easily accepted as possible. The characters in this novel, including Langdon from The Da Vinci Code, were deep and complex with inner-demons that they faced whilst facing the true demons of the real world.
The Da Vinci Code was good, but this novel was phenomenal; absolutely perfect. I would give it a 6/5 (6 out of 5) if it made sense to do so.

I bought it because somebody recommended it as being better than DaVinci Code. I haven't read Davinci yet either, but I thought that this book was slow. I had lots of trouble getting through the first half of it. But I must admit, that I grabbed hold in the second half and finished it on a plane trip. It was not as good as I expected it to be, but I enjoyed it.

Wonderful storyline and has great historical significance. Describes inside the Vatican where the public can't go. The book reads fast and is compelling page after page. Very difficult to stop and put it down. I found myself reading "just one more chapter" time after time. Can't think of anything it lacks except more of the story and that's where Dan Brown's other book, "The DiVinci Code" comes in.

As engrossing as this book was, I found myself quite perturbed by the ending. I didn't care for the plot twist in which the one character I liked turned out to be a flaming psycho. Days later, I am still disgruntled.

And yet, I know the minute another Dan Brown book appears in the store, I'll buy it.

And hate myself for it.
