Angelina Ballerina - Meet Angelina Ballerina (DVD, 2004)

I have read several of the Angelina books to my 3 1/2 year old daughter, and thought she'd like an Angela Movie, especially to see her dancing "live". I purchased this movie because I assumed that it would introduce Angelina and her love of dancing, like the first Angelina book does. Well, not quite.

The movie has 2 short Angelina segments. The first is about Angelina and Alice trying to get tickets to see two famous mouse ballet dancers. The second is about Angelina and her partner building abot fo a festival competition. Neither have Angelina dancing at all, but my daughter did like them very much. There are also 2 sections of children dancing, one section which shows children doing different steps (pirouettes, etc.) and one which shows two children doing a simple story-like dance. Neither are intended for instruction, and again, my daughter enjoyed both.

I hope this description tells you a little more of what you're getting (or not getting). Overall, if your child likes ballet AND Angelina, this video is a nice one to add to the collection.

My daughter, who's 5, has just started taking ballet classes, so she's VERY excited about anything "ballet". When I ordered "MEET ANGELINA BALLERINA" I had the highest hopes for a big hit. But it was barely a hit...

This video contains only two stories (not four like the others). And, info for those who already own Angelina's dvds: both of these stories are in previous DVDs.

First story is "The Ballet Tickets" (from ROSE FAIRY PRINCESS). Angelina will do anything to see her ballet heroes perform. If only she had tickets to the performance.

Second one is "Two Mice in a Boat" (from ANGELINA IN THE WINGS). Here Angelina must learn how to cooperate with the tough guy Sammy as they are teamed together in the annual boat decoration competition.

My daughter had never watched an AB cartoon and she was nowhere near impressed. Before the second story was over, she asked me to turn off the DVD player, whereas when I get her a new DVD that she likes, she might watch it 2 or 3 times in a row, as it is with "Hi-5", "My Little Pony", "Strawberry Shortcake" and many others.

Also included, as an extra, is an 11-minute bonus Ballet class, which seems cute and entertaining for little girls.

If I could just turn back time and, at least, try another one of Angelina's title...
