Celtic music for a new age

Loreena McKennitt is an artist for the ages. "An Ancient Muse" carrys on where her "Book Of Secrets" left off. Almost 10 years since her last recording, she brings many influences together into a pleasant mix. String and percussion instruments from England, Ireland, Turkey, all blend together, soothing the senses. Her voice is hauntingly beautiful. You'll want to listen over and over.

This cd is one of the best I have purchased in a long time and recommend it. Heard it first on the weekend show "echoes". Loved it and bought it. Listen to it often, my husband loves it too.

  Good but disappointing

I am a big Loreena McKennit fan, however, for a first album in 9 years it is for me disappointing as it all feels very familiar.

I love the Middle-eastern rhythms, one of the reasons I love her music, however the main reason in my interest in her is her harp which makes a minimal appearance in this album. For anyone unfamiliar with her music I think this album will be a delight as you can't really fail to be moved by her voice, and by the sprituality of her music and great rhythms however I suggest anyone listens to "The Visit", "The Mask & the Mirror" and "The Book of Secrets" first.

It saddens me to say it but would have liked something more.... a little bit of something new and exciting.
Out of my treasured Loreena Mckennit collection this won't be the one I reach for first. The production and musicality is faultless but it might have been nice to feel more of a sense of artistic progress.

I think it is a good album but for her it is average.

I love this, her new work! She is already the best and that is hard to top, but she has with this new release! The music simply moves me! It takes me away to a far away place and I never tire of listening to this CD.

  Another great from Loreena McKennitt

I bought "An Ancient Muse" from Loreena McKennitt before it was officially released. The mixture of odd and unusal instruments make this new CD even more appealing to McKennitt fans. The best songs from the CD ? Kecharitomene and Caravanserai are heavy Mid Eastern music that flows and blends with Loreena's Celtic touch. I have all her previous music and I've become more addicted to her music as she's changed the range of instruments. I originaly became interested in Loreen McKennitt because she played a harp, but after the first CD, she kept getting better and better with an even bigger array of seldom heard musical instruments. Her CD liner stories are beautiful as she spans into Spain, North Africa and the Mid East.
If you have a good audio system with large speakers in a relatively large room I strongly recommend her CD, "Live from Toronto and Paris" this is big, full range music that I've seldom heard from a CD

Heard good reviews from friends and family. Her vocals blended with the variety of old and new instruments was very interesting. Appreciate her style and talent of Celtic blends.

Over all I liked it. Since I'm a Mastering Engineer I can say it was recorded well and mixed good. nice wide mix full of dinamics..I do prefer instrumental music so at some points I didn't want to hear the woman singing because it was drowning out the talented musicans... so its kind of a hit or miss CD...listen to demo clips. I didn't expect so much singing or chanting if thats what you call it

If you are fan of Loreena, you'll like this CD. I think it's her best effort so far... My wife calls it "sleepy music"... but that's the idea isn't it? Her music is great for relaxation, meditation, and contemplation. Don't have time for it? Make some, you'll live longer. Trust me.

  Muse qui par...
Review created: 08/14/09

Je possède tous les albums de Loreena, et si je le juge tout de même assez bon, ce n'est pas son meilleur.
Il me fait un peu trop penser à Parallel Dreams.
