Album Notes Personnel: Vincent Herring (soprano & alto saxophones); Dave Douglas, Tex Allen (trumpet); Clifford Adams (trombone); Bruce Barth, John Hicks (piano); James Genus, Marcus McLauren (bass); Mark Johnson, Beaver Harris (drums). Recorded at RCA Studios, New York, New York on April 17, 1986 and October 12, 1989. Includes liner notes by Kevin Whitehead and Vincent Herring. Many jazz fans consider alto saxophonist Vincent Herring a serious contender to the mantle of the late Cannonball Adderley. It's easy to hear why--hard bopper Herring has a similarly blues-charged, mercurial sound and he was featured in the band of Cannonball's brother Nat. This reissue of Herring's 1990 debut album shows his talent flowering, and he gets top-shelf support from the protean trumpeter Dave Douglas and ace post-bop pianist John Hicks.
