Amulets of Ancient Egypt by Carol Andrews

There are so many books about Egypt out there, one can scarcely decide what's fun vs. informative. Most folks like lots of pictures and there are PLENTY in this book. As far as informative, this little volume is terrific. Learning about the many facets of Egyptian culture can be exhausting to most (other than egyptologists). This book, however, is sweet and fascinating.
"Amulets" covers a broad spectrum of concepts and ideas that are derived from the very roots of what it meant to BE Egyptian. It's an excellent account of gods, myths, legends, materials, and most importantly, symbolism, without boring one to death. The text is very "British" but is easy reading in the short 112 overall pages. Though the majority of photos are black & white their quality is superb. The color photos are of equal quality and all display the great range of craftmanship and skills of the ancients.
This is one book every egyptologist has in their library but is a valuable and in-depth account for anyone interested in the history and symbolism of ancient Egypt. The bibliography also lists many excellent works by Aldred, Reisner, Reeves, Wilkinson and (of course) Sir W.M. Flinders Petrie himself.
A great little book!
