The Amplified Bible is great. It adds excitment and detail that we fail to notice in the basic KJV. It makes you want to pick it up and see what exciting thing it has to say today on any subject. The Bible is a living word and the Amplified only brings more life to the verses. Very enteresting and will encourage a reader to want more of the holy word. Sincerely, Janet

large print first , really getting a reference to understand my lord and savior to the fullest that i can. when you start searching, it's as though the spirit just keeps leading you on. somehow a hunger for the truth just keeps on growing over and over again. i've been told people get callings , well i got one since i was 10 and the older i get , i just want more.it's hard to explain unless you've been reborn again. i pray this helps someone understand more as it is helping me now. we're all god's children. may the lord be with us all, joycie

I LOVE this version of the Bible. The King James is very hard to understand which is why I found myself not reading the Bible like I should. The Amplified version is so easy to understand and I love reading it!

I have read many Bibles. The Amplified Bible is great. It really brings out the meaning of the verses as they were written in the original text.Very easy to read. Very easy to follow. Reenergizes your excitment in reading.

GET IT!the large letters make it so you'll be able to read clearly and efficiently. also the greek and hebrew definitions give you expanded idea of what the words mean! it'll make it more memorable and applicable. god bless you all!

The amplified bible is translation all it's own. If the reader can read greek or hebrew they understand much more than if it was translated into english. In english there is one word for "love" in greek there are at least 3, philo for brotherly love, eros for the love between a husband and wife (also the root of our word erotic), and agape for Godly (i.e. perfect) love. The amplified seeks to add back into the text the bible meanings that would be automatically understood if the reader was reading the passage in the original tongue.

Here's the difference:

Psalm 23 NIV

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.

my cup overflows.

Now here is Psalm 23 in Amplified:

1 THE LORD is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.
2 He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.

3 He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him--not for my earning it, but] for His name's sake.

4 Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with [a]oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.

6 Surely or only goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, and through the length of my days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place.

Anything in brackets or parentheses is ALSO what the original language meant but was lost in our attempts to use one english word when the greek or hebrew actually translated to several english words.

In a nutshell, short of learning the original tongues, this translation is the next best thing.

Barnes and Noble price was much higher. I found the same book on Ebay in New Cond and saved a lot of $$.
I got the book for half price.
