Amnesia - The Best Album By The Pousette-Dart Band
Review created: 12/17/06
by:

I believe the Pousette-Dart Band put out four albums from 1975 to 1981 with Amnesia being the second of the four. I own them all and I've always thought Amnesia was the best. All songs on the album were penned by Jon with the exception of Who's That Knockn' which was written by John Curtis of the Pousette-Dart Band. This album is pure music. No over production here and no slick studio tricks, just meaningful and memorable lyrics, tight harmonies and arrangements that let the music and the artists shine through.

In college in Tuscaloosa, AL in the late 70's, folk/country rock was wildly popular and several local bands covered many Pousette-Dart Band songs. Manyof those songs are included on the Amnesia album The title cut, Amnesia, has one of the most memorable opening lines of any song I can remember. "When you hit me on the head, with your beer bottle, something in my chemistry changed...". When I put on my old Amnesia LP 1000 good memories come flooding back. County Line and Fall On Me are some of my other favorites from this album.

Jon Pousette-Dart and the Pousette-Dart Band hold their own with all of the 70's greats. Dan Fogleberg, Jackson Browne, Marshall Tucker, Jesse Winchester, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jimmy Buffet and so on. In fact, you'll find Buffet keyboardist Mike Utley featured on Fall On Me, Amnesia, May You Dance and Who's That Knockin'.

You won't find this album or any other Jon Pousette-Dart getting airplay anywhere these days and that is a terrible shame. Fortunately, I just found Jon again and he is still playing dates, mostly in the northeast and still making incredible music and he is already touching a new generation. My 14 year old daughter, not ususally into the music I listen to, thinks the Pousette-Dart Band is cool and keeps trying to run off with my collection.

You need to add Amnesia to your collection today.
