A haunted house story
In 1977, The Amityville Horror, written by Jay Anson, was a national bestseller. The Advanced Reader's Copies copy, sent out by Prentice Hall, called it “the non fiction Exorcist.” , and the cover's subtitle read “A True Story.”

The best known of these films, the original version, which was released in July 1979. The film was made by a independent production company called American International Pictures and directed by Stuart Rosenberg. Starring; James Brolin and Margot Kidder as George and Kathy Lutz.

The 1979 version, and two sequels were filmed at a house in Toms River, New Jersey which had been converted to look like the 112 Ocean Avenue house, because the authorities in Amityville denied permission for filming at the location.

True or a Hoax?
The Amityville Horror, was just the begining, many a book has since been published, from both sides of the fence, and oh so many, many movies.


A really scarry story, and the movies are not bad.

The Amityville Horror progresses very well. The movie has very good replay value. I give this 4 stars out of 5 because on camara angles and special effects. Regarless, the movie has an amazing story and plot twist. Get ready to get spooked.

Nice to watch a classic every now and then. The documentaries the collection come with are fantastic and keep you informed with the true story and biased opinions on the reality of the house in Amityville. Honestly Amityville 3-D was the worst out of the collection.

I decided to buy it because I think this is an interesting story, and I was agree with the price... and now I feel so glad because I have bought an excellent box set...

I bought this DVD Box set because it contains the documentary: AMITYVILLE CONFIDENTIAL which is only (as of right now) available in the box set. This documentary presents all the TRUE facts of what REALLY did happen in AMITYVILLE without blurring it with some fiction (like the movies did). On top of that intriguing disc, you get the first 3 AMITYVILLE movies. And I still paid less for the whole set and shipping together than it would cost just to buy at Wal-Mart. 4 brand new DVDs + shipping for under $20. Now that's what I call a deal! We need more deals like this on Ebay.

It was a good movie, but scary to me. My husband liked them all, he said they were just his type scary but not too scary.
