Every time a new cache of tapes is turned into another Eva Cassidy cd I wonder it this will be the last one and this probably will be. Each cd leaves me hungering for more from this hauntingly beautiful voice that left us long before she knew how what a powerful effect her voice would have. We were robbed of her voice in the saddest and most frustrating way when she succumbed to cancer in 1996 at the age of just 33. Her tragic story has passed into cult legend with the posthumously released seven albums. If you haven't heard the pure tone of her voice before I don't think you can go wrong with any of her albums. This one, filled with some surprises, is no exception. My favorite is Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" but she also gives very pleasing renditions of Joe Simon's early 1970s soul hit "Drowning in the Sea of Love" Ray Charles's "Hallelujah I Love Him So" and The Beatles "Yesterday". In 2003 Entertainment Weekly stated, "With a honeyed voice and not a drop of guile, Cassidy crafted singularly familiar songs....her gifts carry on..." I couldn't agree more!
