Awesome band. They have been around since 1982. Though metal genre, they play a wide range of styles. I've read that Geoff Tate has a voice range of 4 octaves, and he uses it well. If you like music that add's political and prophetic insight, this is the band for you. Not only do they keep up on social issues, but the music changes with the times as well.
American soldier add's insight to what it feels like to be involved with combat. For those of us that have no experience with military life, it offers a very indepth journey into the war experience.
Queensryche gives the listener all the feelings and emotional impact that goes with the life of a war soldier. No one enjoys war, especially the combat soldiers, and Queensryche delivers that message in a very well thought out format.

  Queensryche - American Soldier

Queensryche: I was never a huge fan. Liked Mindcrime well enough as it was a concept album the likes of which haven't been seen since the Beatles or maybe Pink Floyd. Empire was a good enough album (back in the day) but back then, it lacked a certain something. Queensryche came to town in Norfolk, VA in October. I and a friend purchased tickets and figured "what the heck". We were jazzed to see "Mindcrime". Got to the show and they played sets from Rage for Order, American Soldier and Empire. I'll just say that the band is without a doubt worth the price of admission. Geoff Tate sounds as good (better acutally) as on album and the tune selection was outstanding. Not a dry eye in the house when he and his daughter Emily sang Coming Home together on stage (from the American Soldier album). I now believe that this concert couldn't have been better if they would have played selections from Mindcrime. In fact, I've rediscovered Queensryche and it's like discovering a new band all over again. I would highly recommend this and at a minimum Rage for Order, Operation Mindcrime and American Soldier as "must haves" for any true music collection. Bon Ear-ppatite!!

I decided to buy it because I am a huge Queensryche fan and the price was great on this cd. It was written for all of the troops at war and I thought it was a great tribute to them, with the words that singer Geoff Tate wrote.

Solid effort from Queensryche taking a topic most people do not want to discuss. The way they went out and spoke to and used the actual soldiers words in the CD was excellent.

This hits the nail on the head. If you have never been there you will not get some of the "story" but you will have more of an understanding about what a Reserve and Guard Soldier is all about...especially the Guard.
