I've seen the DVD, "An American in Paris", shortly after winning it on ebay, and rate it excellent. Gene Kelley plays an outstanding roll in this 1950's adaptational which is seldom seen in movie stores today. The musical portions along with the dancing and theme behind "An American in Paris", really do come together splendidly. Two Thumbs Up. This movie would make a perfect addition to any deserving collector of fine films,(DVD).

  Singing and dancing through Paris
Review created: 09/06/09

"An American In Paris" is one of my all time favorite movies. It's light and silly sometimes, people bursting into song and dance with cute kids at Paris Bistros, etc.

Of course the main reason for the film is to watch Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron dance. The climatic dance sequel is just great. Leslie Caron was a very good and real dancer. Kinda goofy/toothy looking in her younger years.

Oscar Levant is an added bonus to the film. Very funny. Nina Foch uses the word "assiduously" in one scene. That's much too literate and high brow for todays car chase and explosion type movies, but was fascinating to hear in a movie.

Gene Kelly at his finest, and what an introduction of Leslie Caron's talents! I have seen this masterpiece many times and never tire of the fun, dancing and singing. I'm sure I will view it many, many more times!!!

Gene Kelly is always entertaining. I love to watch him dance. This is a very upbeat movie. Just a nice clean movie to watch and the end is so wonderful.

Item should not have been listed if the item was not 'in stock'. Waited four weeks and still have not received the item. Disappointing.

  Dancing with a Memory
Review created: 08/08/07

This movie, though an older one, never ceases to amaze me for the talent Gene Kelly has. Introducing Leslie Carron, the movie is about an American painter (Kelly) who falls for a girl. In the long run, he shouldn't even be with her, but he can't help but love her. Wonderful sets, music by Gershwin costar Oscar Levant does a wonderful job of playing in the movie.

Though musicals are somewhat a style of the past, the emotions it tries to capture can be considered old-timey. Yet it's nice to think of a time where ideals were simple. This is one movie that if you like this genre of film I highly recommend watching at least once to understand how emotions need no words to express themselves.

rented a copy from the library last week. I was amazed at the dancing. caron was the best. kelly fused all styles of dance into an art form. if there is a better dance movie out there I want to see it. kelly could have easily done hip -hop style. the dance floor is the ultimate in free expression kelly knew no boundries in this one.

  Que Magnifique!
Review created: 02/23/06

This timeless classic is dear to my heart. It is an Oscar winner that, if it was produced today, would still beat the best.

Gene Kelly soars as a struggling American artist working the creative streets of Paris. Things get difficult when, after receiving the patronage and attentions of a rich and attractive heiress, he falls in love with a french shop girl, Lise.

Musical classics are boundless in this Gershwin masterpiece: "Our Love is Here to Stay", "I Got Rhythm", "Nice Work If You Can Get It", "'S Wonderful", "Embraceable You", "(I'll Build a) Stairway to Paradise"

As an American who has lived in Paris, I'm ever charmed by the international cast and the Parisienne atmosphere.

Incredible. See it. Period.
