The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (2000, Hardcover, Indexed)

This dictionary has become our go-to book. It has done more for my students than any other learning tool we have. I bought it myself for my GED classroom because the paperback dictionaries we have weren't adequate for our work and weren't generating any student excitement. My students get this book out every day! They can't wait to look something up, play the dictionary game or just check the spelling of a word. They like the thumb guide, color photos, and clear print. The size and heft of this book proclaim it to be a serious tool and my students like and respect that. When it went missing one day, there was a great hue and cry of outrage until we found it in the resource learning center.
I have ordered five more of these to use as graduation gifts for my GED students when they pass the test. It is a reward they will appreciate and a book that will serve them well for many, many years.
