American Hardcore

American Hardcore is an excellent film for the simple fact that it documents what was the uprising of hardcore punk rock circa early 80s. Where "straight edge" sprouted from and where the scene kinda built its own demise. Overall excellent documentation, having members of Black Flag, TSOL, Circle Jerks, Cro-Mags, Minor Threat, Minutemen, Bad Brains and many others describe exactly how it was growing up and being part of that Hardcore Movement. The only fault I found in the production of this Document is that the Dead Kennedys were mentioned, but no interview was done with any member of that band. Jello Biafra, being the main voice of DK and a Huge influence of the DIY Hardcore Punk rock movement was no even acknowledged. Yes you had all members of Bad Brains telling you all of their movement, but that was east coast, West Coast was the Dead Kennedys. The film makes it as if Black Flag were the ambassadors of the west coast given they founded SST records, and yes Black Flag was great, but you cannot deny that DK were the ones that started or at least had a huge influence on the Hardcore movement( on the west coast at least). There is great insight to be found of what was the mentality of these "punk rockers", the film does not disappoint and many great forgotten bands are featured as part of the ongoing soundtrack through the film. A "where are they now" feature would have been entertaining, but this is aint not VH1 behind the the music, its Punk Rock. Love it or Hate it, it was the voice of a generation. Dig it.
