I have to admit that the first time I ever watched American Dad, I wasn't all that impressed. However, it didn't take long for me to come around. Having been a Huge Family Guy fan forever, I originally thought the show leaned abit to far towards that (even though they're made by the same person), but soon realized that though the characters for the show were somewhat similiar, they were all but opposites. The right-wing Liberal Father, stern hippi-ish activist daughter, care-free wife, crazy son, sexually ambiguious alien, and german speaking goldfish all come together for some insane laughs. I bought the first season previous to this and loved it, so I bought the second season and loved it even more. I highly recommend it, it had me in stitches.
