An easy flowing read, facts galore, I learned a lot!

I really enjoy Bill Bennett's morning show. Regardless of which way he leans, he is the most polite and fair act in the business. Tired of the negativity on both sides, Bill puts wisdom and knowledge to work in a calm fashion.

His book reads the same. I learned a lot and actually 'appreciated' some historical figures and their efforts. I still have yet to get the first book!

If you're considering reading , "America: The Last Best Hope, Volume II," then you are likely already familiar with Bennett's work in Volume I.
I enjoyed both of William Bennett's books in the series, although do not expect the author to hold himself to any standard of balance that normally expect, but seldom experience of our journalists. Most authors have no promise to write unbiased material, how could they honestly and why should we expect it?
Bennett's book is shamelessly partisan and he makes no apologies about his metamorphosis from Democrat to Republican, with all the implications that come with that change.
Bennett lingers a bit too long on the polarizing matter of abortion throughout the latter part of the book. A staunch pro-lifer, Bennett asserts the idea that the unborn deserve protection that an "activist" Supreme Court has seen fit to remove.
As Ronald Reagan's Secretary of Education, Bennett is not exactly removed from the events and individuals that rode out the closing years of the Cold War, which is where the book ends.
Many readers will see this book as an American History through the eyes of the Right, others will not even bother to read beyond the flap of the dust jacket.
Bennett is conscious enough to point out that his analysis, especially his last years of the book, is still too recent for the a fair historical judgment. There is little doubt that much of the Cold War’s history is still being academically written and studied.
Conservatives will enjoy Bennett's right-leaning and periodic political digs, liberals will just as often roll their eyes at Bennett's attacks on left-wing policy shortcomings of the period the book covers. Any reasonable reader will sift out this aspect for what it is and not allow it to distract from the historical fundamentals Bennett has written about.
Any post 9/11 book on U.S. History will be scrutinized for its political leanings, as much as any pre 9/11 history of America will be entirely deficient in a current contextual reading.
Basically, "America: The Last Best Hope, Volume II, From A World War to the Triumph of Freedom," is a good book that is actually a pleasure to read. If you're looking into American History, there is no shame in taking a look at this book.
READ IT, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY: REVIEW IT! AND IF YOU DISAGREE, VALIDATE IT IN YOUR REVIEW, OR COMMENT ON MY OWN. BOOKS WILL GET BETTER AS WE READERS SHARE OUR OPINIONS.
