average war movie - Finnish or otherwise
while well-acted and featuring a few decent battle scenes (mostly at the end of the film), this film is rather small-scale focusing only on a dozen-man patrol behind Russian lines. The love story is mishandled and gets in the way of things. However, it's a Finnish World War 2 movie and yes it lives up to the expectations, though its nowhere nearly as good as Talvisota or Tuntematon Sotilas (the 1955 version). It's about in the same league as Framom Framsta Linjen, just an average small-unit Continuation War movie with little to set itself apart.
The DVD itself is nothing special. The aspect ratio is wrong with things stretched out vertically. The English subtitles are burned on and unremovable. The picture quality is only so-so but the disc is only single-layer so that's to be expected.
