Used Ambir Docketport 485

I bought this because it does not require 120 volt power. It was used, so I have no idea how much it had been used or how long it sat unused. It came without instructions, a calibration sheet, or USB cord (which the seller stated). The cord is a common type used with cameras, and I have several. The operating instructions are easily found on Ambir's web site. The instructions say you can use a blank sheet of paper if you do not have the calibration sheet. I could not get it to work, so I ordered a calibration sheet/cleaning kit from Ambir. It still would not work. I then tried a different USB cord and it calibrated & works fine. Some digital camera cords might not be able to handle the power needed to operate the scanner.
Initially it did not pull the paper through evenly but it got better as I used it and it's fine now. I suspect it sat for awhile before I got it.
If the original is of poor quality, it does not make as good an image as a Visioneer XP220. But the Visioneer is brand new (and requires that pesky power cord). I did make some setting changes and the scan quality is very adequate for my needs. Overall I'm very happy with it. The problems I had were because it was used, and I expect that when I buy used. The only suggestion I have for Ambir is to make the calibration sheet available as a PDF on their web site.
