Grabbing onto the natural disaster theme, Ms. Steel's "Amazing Grace" is a story about a prominent San Francisco socialite named Sarah Sloane. She is hosting a celebrity studded charity event, including the Grammy winner, Melanie, and so she is sure it will be a huge success. Unfortunately, a devastating earthquake strikes. In the middle of it all is gossip photographer, Everett Carson, snapping pictures left and right until he comes upon a beautiful woman who is administering to the victims. What makes her so different is that Sister Mary Magdalen is clearly in her element. Between Sarah, Everett, Melanie and Sister Mary, they find that they all have secrets to hide in the wake of this tragedy and are compelled to re-examine their lives. In doing so, a strong bond is formed that will lead them all to a new beginning.
This new Danielle Steel book has a lot of spiritual over tones. It does seem that it take a tragedy to change someone's life and in this book there is "amazing grace." I think Ms. Steel's fans will be pleased with this new work. It has a different tone from most of her other books.
