Album Notes
Mandy Moore certainly traveled an impressive distance between the release of her 1999 debut, SO REAL, and 2009's AMANDA LEIGH. To say Moore has grown up is an understatement: the sophisticated, well-crafted singer-songwriter fare of AMANDA LEIGH bears few similarities to the teen-oriented dance-pop that began her career.
The album's title, which announces Moore's real name, is a propos: this is honest, personal music that puts the emphasis on personal expression, both lyrically and musically. Moore hasn't lost her knack for pop hooks, as tunes like the "I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week" attest, but Moore has more in common with Joni Mitchell and Fiona Apple than she does with Britney Spears now. The result is one of her most fully realized and well executed, not to mention enjoyable, efforts.

Editorial Reviews
[W]ith twisty-turny melodies; jazzy, Broadway-influenced arrangements; and one track that sounds -- improbably enough -- like FRAGILE-era Yes. -- Grade: B+
