Always Faithful by William W. Putney (2001, Hardcover, Illustrated)

ALWAYS FAITHFUL by Capt. William W. Putney, DVM, USMC (Ret)is an extradinoary depiction of the war dogs and their owners/handlers in World War II. This non-fiction body of work is a must read for any devote dog owners, member of the dog fancy (regardless of breed perference) or member of the military past or present. It enbodies the relationships of man and dog and the heros dogs of the war and the sacifices the servicemen and service dogs endured. Capt. Putney passed away March 8, 2003 so I never had had my copy signed by the author, but will be forever grateful for his having penned this account of War Dogs of WWII.
A book well worth reading and that stays with you. I recommend this book to anyone who loves dogs. This book is the true story of the war dogs in WWII. There are a lot of details, but I like that the book isn't gory. Again, a great book for those who love dogs, and even those who are interested in WWII history.
