Altered (DVD, 2006)

What I thought would end up being "just another horror flick" and even a little boring at first sight of the characters truly ended up to be a very good film. New, different, and a totally "keep you on the edge of your seat" picture! I must admit that the acting in some scenes are a bit over dramatic but then again, it is a horror and sometimes it's difficult to gain first rate Actors and Actresses. If you like gore than you'll really appreciate a couple of the scenes in this movie as one is "over the top" disgusting. All in all I'd have to rate this your average B horror flick however, it's concept is very new and unusual and I, as Horror and Sci-fi fanatic really ended up enjoying it. I say, go for it!

After recieving my copy of Altered, I was exicted to see the movie. After hearing of the preview, the movie sounded great. Well the movie was good, but definetly not great. It had too many plot holes. I am not a person too caught up in the plot all the time, but I felt that there was an original Altered that I missed. I think the beginning of the movie should have started differently, so the movie would make more sense. If you can get your copy of Altered for cheap go ahead, otherwise just rent it.

It's one of the first movies I watched with my best friend. It's science fiction and suspense wrapped in one, and it's pretty funny as well. It's not an amazing movie but it's a good watch :) Not necessarily for the squeamis either, there's blood and guts in this movie, and I mean GUTS. Ha, ha.

It was an ok movie. I give it an average rating as it didn't totally wow me but it didn't totally suck either.

Not overly scary as I would have liked for a sci-fi horrror film (most people won't get nightmares from it). Special effects were done well to make it believable, the crew for the movie did pretty good job with it.

However, what is lacking is information on the previous events that led up to this particular time. I don't mean dialogue, but action footage of the past events. The characters do make conversation of what had happened in the past, but if you don't pay enough attention you won't catch it.

I collect tons of movies, but this is one that really isn't worthy enough to be in my "oh I gotta see it again" category.

Altered is one of the best independent horror movies I've ever seen (and I've seen plenty). Without big name actors and with limited sets, this movie creates high suspense with the very first scene and maintains it to the very last. There is true talent at work here - the acting, directing and editing are superior. Very highly recommended!

It made you hang onto your seat and was scary, bloody and gorey with good CGI animations. It had an 'open ending' as if it were a sequel to a next movie as in an Altered II.

This is really awful. What was a promising idea did not materialize well on the screen. It was supposed to be about four friends getting revenge on an alien that killed one of their friend years ago. But some how it turned into everyone in a garage screaming at each other for an hour (it seemed like longer). I actually love B horror movies. But I don't think this would even qualify as a B movie...or a C or D. It's new a kind of annoying.

I'm not sure I'd buy it again but I love giving offbeat movies a chance, especially if they're sci fi. The acting is strong from some actors, passable from others. The plot is simple but a bit sketchy, I think they hoped it would finance a higher budget prequel which would in fact make one hell of a movie. You could almost look at it as a sequel to Fire In the Sky which is claimed to be a true story but, this is no sequel. Some hunters are after an alien, they catch the alien, they take the alien to an ex abuctee, they torture the alien...I'm sure you can see where this is going for there to be any excitement. The budget was certainly high enough that it could have been a bit better though. The effects were average to very good at times. A bit better writing and it would have made cult status but, the writing just wasn't consistent.
It's till worth giving a watch because I think it is in fact worthy of a higher budget prequel.

This is one of those lost gems that some people will never get to see because they never heard of it due to it's straight to video release. This movie is intense and well done and you will want to watch it again and again as I have. The limited budget on this film was spent wisely and the actors/characters are real people, not fluff actors. All participants in this film do their job effectively.
The little special effects there are in ALTERED are perfect and fitting, nothing ridiculous and over the top.
If you enjoy a good nail bitter, or Alien movie, or thriller...this is your ticket.
The musical score is genius. Unfortunatly it is unavailable in a recorded format.
You will not be disappointed. I will not go into details of the movie itself so that the mystery is still there when you watch it.
