Album Notes
Recorded at Ramshackle Studios, London, England; Surrogate Spike, Los Angeles, California; Bhod and Hiney Bear Studios, San Francisco, California.
More sophisticated pop-punk from J-Church -- in this case, it's another compilation of scattered material (most of which has been previously released). But what's handy about Altamont '99 is that it features out-of-print material and live-in-the-studio versions of songs like "Dramatic History of a Boring Town," "Contempt for Modesty" and "Undisputed Kings of Nothing." So not only do the more familiar tracks have a rougher edge to it, but impossible-to-find EPs like Kittums in a Coma are found on here. J-Church doing the Smiths' "Girlfriend in a Coma" and Radiohead's "Creep"? Who would have thought? ~ Mike DaRonco
